We would have liked to have stayed but, immediately after booking, were hit up for additional, undisclosed 150 pet fees, a deposit with vendor fees, and intrusive, third-party verification process requiring IDs, selfies, and off-platform payment despite the listing clearly stating “Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.” When we politely inquired of property manager Jessy, they repeatedly defended this lack of transparency/false advertising by insisting no one had ever questioned before. When a nonrefundable booking affords potential guests no other recourse, this is a coercive practice. We don’t dispute a host’s right to charge fees or use outside platforms, just our right to transparency and Vrbo’s “booking with confidence guarantee.” To be fair, Vrbo refunded their portion of charges as we immediately contacted them and never stayed, but we were ultimately left having to dispute the property manager’s incomplete refund with our credit card and figure something else out last minute, which notably provided full transparency and no additional fees or information. Continuing to argue this was standard practice/required of Vrbo while pointing to others’ acquiescence as justification, Jessy took no point of feedback to simply amend the listing to divulge all required processes, fees, and charges as it should and indicated it had.
