Hanalei Bay Resort is fabulous. It’s main draws are lush, well-cared-for grounds, lagoon-style pool with waterfalls, and access to an absolutely fantastic stretch of beach. Unit 9206 has one of the best views on the whole property – don’t forget your binoculars for watching the surfers on Hanalei Bay! The room is comfortable and nicely decorated. It is as pictured, except there is no longer the same table and chairs on the lanai. Instead, there is a small bar level table with two tall chairs (no cushions). The king bed is comfortable with lots of pillows and the air-conditioning unit works great. As described, there is a mini fridge (the sizable waist-high kind) and a very small coffee maker. There were plates and bowls for two, two wine glasses, one mug, knives, forks and spoons but no juice glasses – pretty minimal but to be expected since there’s no kitchen or microwave. There’s no table (or desk) in the unit, except the tall one I mentioned on the lanai. So if you’re planning to work remotely or eat in, plan to do so al fresco. I’d definitely book the room again, but there are a few things to keep in mind. This room is connected to a larger condo that can be rented together or separately. The adjoining door is paper thin. I could hear every single word my neighbors were saying, and they were not talking very loudly. Fortunately, none of us were in our rooms very much. And speaking of noise, there is a massive property next door (formerly the St. Regis) that is closed right now and undergoing major renovations. There is construction noise – fairly minimal from the room but louder down on the beach. Even so, the beach is truly idyllic. Hanalei Bay Resort pretty much has exclusive access to the beach right now (called Puu Poa). The path from the resort to the beach is steep but paved – saw several families with strollers making the trek. There’s a phone at beach level for you to call for one of the resort golf carts to come take you back up the hill. There’s lots of great shade trees and, at least when I was there, it is was calm and shallow. Snorkeling was great – even saw a turtle hanging out. I had intentions of exploring other beaches, but honestly this one was so perfect, I went to it every day. Once the adjoining resort reopens (scheduled for Nov. 2022), I imagine the beach will be more crowded. Thanks to HBR #9206 for a great getaway. I’ll be back!
