Quaint inn on a block of historic buildings. Hostess offered to stay up late waiting on us since we were delayed by traffic.

We stayed in the Edgar Allen Poe suite and liked it. It was spacious and had modern conveniences even though the room and building felt like the 1880s. The area around the inn is beautiful old period homes. The adjoining Patrick Henry café had good food and its lower level pub had a Cheers feel to it.

Excellent downtown B&B

Brought my wife here for her birthday. The price was reasonable and the room was clean and well appointed. It's close to many of the historic sites. The inn keeper was very friendly and attentive. We'll definitely come back on a return trip.

Friendly and beautiful!

We stayed here for one night to spend some time in the historic Church Hill neighborhood of Richmond. The innkeeper, Lena, is very knowledgeable about the history of Richmond and made excellent recommendations about sights we should see. And she makes killer coffee and breakfast!

Great host! The inn was great, we stayed in the Edgar Allan Poe’s suite and we were not disappointed. Good vibes in the neighborhood. We will definitely be returning to the inn. It was a great topping for our Edgar Allan Poe’s tribute vacation.

Highly Recomend

We were looking for a local authentic experience and we got it! Helena, the inn keeper, was fabulous. Like we were old friends! The history she gave us and recommendations were on point. Breakfast was locally sourced and prepared and was delicious, especially the coffee! We definitely recommend you book!

History in Richmond VA

We took a chance booking at this old inn in the historic section of Richmond VA, and we weren't disappointed. As long as you can accept creaky stairs, and a bathroom that hasn't been updated, you will be charmed by the Inn at Patrick Henry's. Our "suite" (bedroom and sitting room) was spacious with adjoining bathroom that satisfied our needs. All were clean and carefully prepared with attention to travelers' needs. Our inn keeper was outgoing, super friendly, full of suggestions to help us experience the Richmond of today. Breakfast was plentiful and varied the three mornings we had it. She prided herself on fresh, local fare, generously offered. All in all, our stay was a pleasant one.

Quaint and historic

adorable little Inn. Remember this area is OLD and so this Inn. But it is quaint and clean and friendly. The neighborhood is great to walk and the people very friendly. I was here just to stop over night on our way to the outer banks. I want to come back and tour Richmond. This will definitely be the place I will stay. The king size bed was very soft which was not my favorite and the breakfast did not accommodate all of my food issues but other than that I was very happy I picked this Inn over a Holiday Inn!!

Close to the center of town' nice restaurants nearby. This property is old fashioned and funky and has lots of history around it.

Best spot in Richmond by far! And breakfast is our favorite

When I first stayed at this place it was a happy accident. We loved it so much that we canceled our return booking at another hotel and booked with Helena. We travel twice a year through Richmond and always stay here, and send our family to stay with her too. She is welcoming and a wealth of information about Richmond and much of the area. We stay during the week and love LOVE love the local, organic and homemade breads and treats she puts out for us. Her coffee is her own roast too! The rooms are spacious and clean and walking the hill is so gorgeous. And when you're done exploring there is a different pub on the property with the best onion rings I've ever had. Take that back, we've only stayed in the king suites, but we've seen the third floor room and it's not bad. Not our favorite, but it's not bad. Can't wait until we see her again in September for the Browns Island river fest

May be a Bed but is certainly not a Breakfast ,

We stayed here in May and was greeted by the owner. She is friendly but did not consider that we had driven 7 hours and just wanted to get to our room and unwind. She showed us to our room and then proceeded to talk and talk and talk and talk about her younger life and the things she had done, etc. We had to finally interrupt her and say we needed to get our stuff out of the car and relax before heading out to dinner. Although knowledgeable about the area she was WAY off on the price we would have to pay in the public parking garbage and it ended up costing us 3 times as much as expected. Went down to breakfast and were lead to the kitchen and told to help ourselves to a bowl of yogurt with choppied fruit; a hard boiled egg and toast that we had to make ourselves. Afterward when we asked about the limited breakfast and said that we figured since it was a bed and breakfast we would have had a larger breakfast she said that she was taxed as being just room and not board and would have had to charge us more for food and only gave us what she did as a curtesy and did not have to do this at all. This place is listed as a bed and breakfast but be aware it is not! For the price we paid we expected a quieter greeting and a larger breakfast and more consideration.

Travelling with friends, we had 2 of the 3 rooms at the Inn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Helena is a great host, made an excellent dinner recommendation and a wonderful breakfast for us. The great thing about a small inn, is that we got to have breakfast with the entire company of guests and Helena! The building has lots of character, and that means stairs ans squeaks. We loved our stay!

Great place to stay

Helena is friendly and very welcoming. Our room was comfortable and breakfast was outstanding with homemade muffins, yogurt with fruit and granolahomemade as well. Great location as well!

Patrick Henry's B&B Centrality Located in Richmond VA, Nice, Clean & Historical B&B, with Charming features. Right next door to the Pub with Delicious Food Daily Specials i.e. & Soups and Comfort Food, a Great selection of Beer & Wine, plus Spirits. Owner friendly with a Great Personality and informative of the area, with Delicious Gluten ,Organic Fresh Continental Breakfast. Felt like Home despite the flurry of Snow, & Winter schedule.

The best kept secret in Richmond!

This B & B is located in a beautiful historic area in Richmond. Helena, the proprietor, was very communicative before arrival and during our stay. There are only three bedrooms in the inn and each one has their own private bathroom. We were in the spacious Scotchtown Suite with separate sitting area and bedroom areas complete with refrigerator/freezer, TV, and an extremely comfortable king size bed. A delicious breakfast with amazing coffee is served. I can't recommend this Inn highly enough.

Richmond Vacation

Helena, the Inn's Owner, was gracious and welcoming. It should be known though that she does not live on site and that there are no other staff at the Inn after 9:30am unless guests are checking in or checking out. When she leaves the property for the day, all common rooms on the main floor are closed and locked off to guests. This made the stay feel a bit less Inn like since I usually enjoy sitting in a library or parlor while reading a book or chatting with other guests at night about their travels and adventures. You really are just renting a room in a house rather than enjoying that true Inn experience. But for those travelers who are more private, the room was quite pleasant and the location is perfect for walking tours and other site seeing.

Old Richmond Charm

This is where you stay if you want to be if you aren't interested in the "amenities" of a squared-off hotel room. Old, creaky B&B with charm oozing out of every crevice. Excellent breakfast. Innkeeper is personable, warm, and as charming as your room.

The inn met or exceeded all expectations. The location is a great plus. The neighborhood/historic area is lovely. The innkeeper is very personable, eager to make guests feel right at home--and I did. I give the Inn at Patrick Henry the highest rating in all areas.

Wonderful stays at the Inn!

We stayed at the Inn at Patrick Henry's not once, but twice - a week apart. We had a wonderful time, and it felt like 'coming home' on our second visit. The rooms are great. Even though the building is old (built before 1850), the rooms are very comfortable and have all the amenities you'd need. The (big!) rooms have great beds too. The historical building obviously has no elevator, but the stairs are easy with multiple intermediate landings should you have the Byrd's Nest room on the top floor, like we did. The area - Church Hill - is an older, quaint area, a mile away from downtown. This means it's nice and quiet. It does have quite a few bars, restaurants, bakeries on walking distance. It also features museums, churches, and famous old homes - there is lots to see here. Helena provides an extensive guide of local must-see's and must-do's, which is very helpful. The host, Helena, is a fabulous person. She's one of the warmest, most welcoming hosts we've ever encountered. Hospitality runs in her veins! She cooks great breakfast, which is all from scratch, nutritious, delicious, and varies from day to day. Helena is very knowledgeable about the area, which means that, when asked, she will give you great recommendations for places to go to see, for restaurants (thanks to Helena, we had amazing dining experiences!), and she also knows her history (ask her about the street lanterns outside the building!). Helena's helpfulness showed also when our car broke down (!) right in front of the Inn when we were about to leave for our next destination of our vacation... We will definitely be back whenever we're in the area.

Good stay!

Was there for the Richmond Marathon. Place was sizable with a big sitting room, nice bed, and a wonderful neighborhood. Bathroom was small though (and might need some cleaning and renovation).

Nice B&B, what makes this place stand out is the proprietor (.Helena). She was friendly and made is feel very at home. The bed and pillows were great and we had a super relaxing sleep.

Perfect for us!

We stayed in the William Byrd Nest on the top floor. It had a lot of character and was comfortable and charming. Breakfasts were absolutely delicious and we enjoyed being welcomed into the kitchen for coffee while Helena cooked for us. That brings us to the highlight: our innkeeper. She is charming, knowledgeable, friendly and fun. She is an excellent cook and knows all the best places to visit in Church Hill. We'll be back!
