We woke up the first morning of our stay to a clogged toilet. (Not to be gross, but it's important to the tale, so I'll just say no one had done anything other than #1 since we checked in the night before.) I plunged and flushed the toilet vigorously for a few minutes, and as I did, we heard gurgling noises in the bathtub and in the sink in the kitchenette area of the bedroom. The room filled with a sewer smell, and we decided there was no way we were going to stay. As we were packing out of the room, we left the doors open so the smell could clear out. When we left, I sent the manager a text saying we were leaving and why and asked for a refund. The manager texted back that they didn't smell anything, and there wasn't a problem. They declined our request for a refund. Now, it may be that there has never been a problem with the plumbing in this room before, and there never will be again. BUT if you stay in this property and there is a problem, and you would like a refund, make sure the manager is called into the room before you plunge the toilet and clear it out and air out the room. The manager (understandably) won't believe you otherwise. I'm giving the 2-star rating for communication because even after we went through the whole back-and-forth texting when leaving after our first night, I still received a curt voicemail from the manager on the day we were supposed to have checked out asking why we were late checking out.
