I have rented through Vrbo many times and have literally never had a problem - until now.
The unit clearly had not been cleaned prior to our arrival, as the cooktop was dirty, there were dead bugs in the lower bathroom, and both bathrooms had a large amount of thick black hair in the drains and on the floor. And they charged me $200 + in cleaning and service fees.
That was not the worst part. The queen bed must not have been replaced in forever, as the mattress formed a v-shape, causing two parties to move to the center all night. It also made it difficult even to get out of the bed. The rental manager, Retreatia, must have known there is a problem, as someone had put two thin pieces of foam on the mattress, with no effect.
I wrote to Retreatia in the morning to report the disgusting state of cleanliness and the mattress. They apologized for the cleaning and said they would send someone to clean, and said they "had never had any complaints about the bed." I said I found that hard to believe, and referred to the foam inserts mentioned above.
I asked that they move us to another unit but was told that "there is legit nothing else available", and they refused. They said the GM would come to the unit to check it out. After that they informed me that they saw the problem and that they would buy a foam pad at a local store to make it better. I agreed to try but asked they move us if it didn't work. They found a pad and we used it the second night, with almost no improvement. I sent a message to Retreatia to inform them of this, and asked once again that they move us for the last two nights of our trip. They simply ignored my email. It got so bad that my partner woke up after the third night with bad back pain, so we ended up having to leave early and forego our last night.
I still have yet to hear from Retreatia, but will dispute this with my credit card company. As stated in the title, please look at the Google reviews for Retreatia in general, and don't book anything through them, and certainly not Hillside 2 in Steamboat.
