This is a really odd place as it feels like something from a bygone age. Even checking in at reception it felt as though you had gone back several decades in time!
The lift was a good example, an elderly appliance which although allegedly refurbished recently had a heavy manually operated door which made use with luggage difficult.
Our room was good and whilst the furnishings were old fashioned, the bathroom was modern with a great spa bath and separate shower cubicle and there was a good sized tv. Good quality tea, coffee, biscuits and water which were refreshed daily. The bed was really comfortable.
There was a good continental breakfast included in the room rate, although their attention to replenishing items was poor. We had one dinner in the hotel restaurant, which was fine - the menu whilst good was very limited and the ambience was poor with conversation drowned by a loud pianist. We found that the Irish Pub (Harp & Fiddle) which belongs to the Carrington a more friendly place for a casual bite to eat.
There is a Brasserie in the hotel grounds but this has loud music playing daily with live performances on Fridays and Saturdays – OK if you like that sort of thing but impossible to avoid if you don’t.
There was a lovely terrace with great views and buzzing with atmosphere to enjoy a cold beer or cocktail on return from a day exploring the Blue Mountains. However, they could have made so much more of this part of the hotel, eg by serving light evening meals or break
