This is the river where grain alcohol turned into bourbon. Along this river distillers would load barges of alcohol destined for Memphis and New Orleans. To cheapen the transport, they used cask oak barrels. During the long trip down to New Orleans the alcohol would mix in with the wooden barrels and be transformed. New Orleans didn't know what to call this sweet new liquor. The casks were stamped with the county of origin, Bourbon County. This resulted in a new nickname being formed, Bourbon Whiskey, and the name stuck. The river isn't used for transport much anymore, but the history remains.

Great stay at the Manchester. Beautiful lobby and restaurants and super helpful staff. Despite other reviewers complaining about noise, we found it to be quiet and peaceful (stayed 5 nights). Excellent staff! Everybody I encountered welcomed me. Also, every staff member asked if there was anything they could do to make my stay better! I've never felt this welcome at a hotel with exception of one in Rome. Loved it!
