Not Clean at all

The Hotel location was good and in a good area however the hygiene was very low. Service was low - Breakfast was also very basic! over price !!!!!

Quaint

This quaint hotel is just outside York, with free parking and just a short drive from the nearest Park-and-Ride. It's a slightly worn Victorian house with small bar. The room was clean, and the breakfast was great. Certainly great for the price. I'd stay here again.

Very pretty hotel in a lovely bit of York (outside of the city walls, near the race course). Very convenient for visiting the university and the city. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room (and bathroom) was large and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent.

Fantastic staff and

The best thing about this hotel was the staff, who were very friendly and welcoming upon arrival and throughout my stay. The hotel is a 30 mins walk to the centre of York but there aren't many amenities nearby, nevertheless a good location. The breakfast was great and there was a lot on offer. The rooms are minimal but not much to complain about.

Lovely place in to York

Beautiful building, 15 min walk into York. Staff was very acomidating and understaning. Facilities was very clean. the Pool area was a lovely calming place to be. thank you

we booked the family room for 4. double bed and a single bed with a pull out bed underneath. luckily only three of us could make it as if we had to use the pull out bed space would have been very tight. other than that this hotel was fab, private "challet" style rooms outside of the main hotel. breakfast was included and was great.

Not far from downtown York.

Breakfast was not good. Cold. Hair found on table in food and in butter.room was very humid. Hotel smelled stale.

A fairly ordinary 'old building' hotel accommodation-wise, but with an excellent breakfast and outstandingly pleasant and helpful staff.

Ok for the odd day away

The Knavesmire manor is well located close to the race course, and not too far from the city centre, on a well served bus route. The room was clean and had adequate facilities, the only down side was the small shower room, with very little room. Breakfast was nice with a good variety of food, of a good standard.

Went Downhill!

Initially I was quite impressed with this hotel, the location was fantastic, service seemed good and the room was spacious and comfortable. Going for a swim changed my mind. The paint from the Jacuzzi was coming off on our feet and there was mould at the bottom of the pool. On the second night we found the ceiling had leaked all over the bed and carpet. We informed reception of the issue (which had obviously happened before due to the board screwed into the ceiling) and the girl who helped us was very nice but insisted it was the fault of the guests in the room above as they must have left the bath on. Luckily the water had not soaked through into the mattress so after a change of sheets we could go to bed. Upon checking out we paid the balance. A couple of days later money for the room was debited from the account I had used to book the room 3 weeks prior to arriving (not the account I had used to pay the full balance) which was taken in another 2 separate payments without anyone informing me first! I have just come off the phone to the hotel and have not received an apology at all. The man who I spoke with stated that he had only just found out about the pool/Jacuzzi but I was the second person to comment on this from the same weekend and that they usually close the pool in January for maintenance so there's nothing that could have been done - he actually seemed quite angry and defensive. Not very impressive and I certainly wouldn't return or recommend it to anyone.

Comfortable but........

Outside room with no awning covering to shelter from rain as we arrived. Ensuite extremely small. Partener disturbed during night because of light switch outside bathroom. Breakfast very good in both meal and service.

A fair hotel offering VfM.

Hotel is in a good location; just a short walk (15 mins) from York town centre. Straff very friendly but food is just ok. I ordered a mixed grill (steak, gammon, sausage and pork loin steak) off the evening menu for £16.95. The meal arrived without the pork loin; after complaining the waitress said they had no pork loin and that she could knock 95p off the cost of the meal. I said they should have told me before ordering to give me the oppurtunity to order something else. Eventually got more money knocked off. I would stay there again just not eat there.

Great for York races

Excellent location for York races you can walk to the venue from the hotel. Wifi was a bit slow but managed emails. Pool lacks changing rooms beware! One of the best breakfasts i have had anywhere

Overnight in York

Staff welcoming and helpful. Lovely view of Race Course from our room. Enjoyed a swim in pleasant environment and pleased to find we can with our dods in very nice motel style garden rooms.
