The Space:

Pause House PM is a solar-powered, net-zero studio designed by Hammer & Spear, a small black building set on five private acres of hillside, Joshua trees and open desert in western Yucca Valley, with views of Mt. San Gorgonio. Warm wood-paneled walls, designer lighting, minimalist furnishings and large view-facing windows connect it to the landscape. Outside are a hot tub, a seasonal cowboy plunge tub, an outdoor rain shower, a propane fire pit and a shaded dining area. It is designed for two, with a queen Casper mattress and an ensuite rain shower. Press pause and let the mountain keep you company.

-Outdoor Amenities-

The studio sits on five acres of hillside and open desert, with Joshua trees scattered across the slope and Mt. San Gorgonio as a backdrop. In the heat of the afternoon, cool off in the cowboy plunge tub, which is seasonal, not an in-ground pool, and unavailable November through March, then rinse off in the open-air rain shower or settle into one of the outdoor lounge areas among native plants.



Fire up the propane BBQ and eat under the slatted steel pergola as the shadows stretch across the hills. When the sky turns orange, light the propane fire pit, built into a stone-filled gabion, and pull the lounge chairs close. Later, walk out to the hot tub; there is little light pollution here, and the dark comes on fast and deep. A Level 2 EV charger is available.



-Living Area-

The open studio combines the living, sleeping and dining areas under warm wood walls and ceiling. Curl up on the gray sectional, read in the cozy nook with the hillside framed in the window, or watch the smart TV with integrated sound. Starlink Wi-Fi, heating and air conditioning, and an in-unit washer and dryer are included.



-Kitchen and Dining-

The modern kitchen has stainless steel appliances, a gas range, a microwave, cookware and essential tools, with open shelving and a window over the sink. Start the day with locally roasted Joshua Tree Coffee Co. coffee from the drip coffee maker or French press, then eat at the round wood dining table under its pendant light or outside in the shaded dining area by the propane BBQ.



-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Pause House PM sleeps two in an open studio with a queen Casper mattress and premium linens, surrounded by warm wood and view-facing windows, so the first light reaches you before the alarm does. The ensuite bathroom has a rain shower and clean, stone-toned modern finishes, and the outdoor rain shower offers another way to rinse off.



-Surrounding Area-

Downtown Joshua Tree is close by, and Old Town Yucca Valley and La Copine and the Giant Rock Meeting Room in Flamingo Heights are an easy drive. So are the Integratron, for a sound bath, and the West Entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, for rock formations and desert trails. Pioneertown and Pappy and Harriet's are within reach for an evening of music.

Getting Around:

A personal vehicle is necessary to get around in this area - rideshare apps are not guaranteed.



The final stretch to the home is on maintained dirt roads. Four-wheel drive is not required, but road conditions can vary and may have bumps or ruts, particularly after rainstorms. Please take it slow.



Other Things to Note:

-Cowboy Tub-

The plunge pool at Pause House PM is a cowboy tub, not an in-ground pool. The cowboy tub is drained and unavailable for guest use during the winter months (November through March) to prevent the filter from freezing and breaking.



-House-Specific Rules-

► Please avoid using the hot tub right after it has been serviced, while chemical levels are temporarily higher.



-Pool and Hot Tub Service-

The hot tub and cowboy tub are serviced Tuesdays and Fridays, and service may fall during your stay. Our technician will go directly to the outdoor water amenities.



-Pet Policy-

We welcome your dogs! There is a $100 per dog per stay fee, limit of 2 dogs maximum. Please note on your reservation how many dogs you are bringing. There is an unauthorized pet fee of $500. Please use the provided dog sheets before allowing your dogs on any furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed.

The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it's important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert.



-Security Camera-

There is one exterior security camera monitoring the driveway for vehicle and occupancy compliance. There are no cameras facing private outdoor living areas, including the hot tub, plunge pool or outdoor shower.



-Cell Service-

Cell phone coverage in the area may be limited or unavailable depending on your carrier. Wi-Fi is available at the property.



-Damage Waiver Policy-

Each reservation requires either a refundable security deposit or a non-refundable damage waiver.
