Food quality in restaurant compared to my last stay was terrible. Much reduced menu choices, exorbitantly increased prices, quality of good very poor. Now all self service breakfast. No individual table service at breakfast as before. More like a budget hotel now unfortunately.

Huge bedroom, with two of the largest and most comfortable king sized beds I’d ever experienced. 55” TV in room. Had to hunt for the HD channels, but they’re there. Breakfast, was self-service buffet over the weekend and waitress served during weekdays. Every member of staff we encountered, were very pleasant and helpful. Jess, the part-time receptionist. Lenny, in the restaurant. Alison, the cleaner, who ran 50 yards to hand my brother the wallet he’d dropped. Didn’t use the pool or spa facilities, due to pressure on our time. Overall, would most definitely stay here again in the future.

unfortunately, the shower pressure was shocking when you put it onto warm, i was upgraded which was massively appreciated but that was a complete let down shower wise, would of been nice for some biscuits to come with the hot drinks bit, didn't get chance to use the spa unfortunately, Big let down with not being able to get food before 6pm, i was leaving for a woork commitment, not that i was expecting a full menu but having quick bar meals available would of been massively appreciated for future, perhaps a small menu fpr inbetween meal times

Customer service was not the level expected!
Room was good size and very clean. Welcome desk was friendly but later overall service went downhill. I complained about toilet door not locking, it was never fixed and in the entire stay I was someone will come to fix it. On the last days when I complained, reception was unapologetic and said fine. Also women at Spa reception was extremely unpleasant and not welcoming at all. If we asked any question, felt like she was telling us off. We could clear see she didn’t wanted us there. So we only visit spa and pool one day. Breakfast staff was very welcoming, but spa reception (just that women) attitude was very disappointing. Cleaning service team was very pleasant and friendly.

Fanastic hotel!
We loved our stay, we had a family room which was massive! Rare to find accommodation that has proper beds for the kids - two Queens was amazing! Our two shared a bed but we noticed the sofa was also a pull out, if they didn’t want to share. Very clean, everything in the room we needed, hair dryer, tea and coffee etc. Breakfast was fab, fresh fruit, pastries, cooked breakfast buffet, cereal, toast and a choice of juices, tea and coffee machine. Pool was fantastic and bigger than we expected, again very clean. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, couldn’t fault anything. Highly recommend!

Average experience
Hotel was OK - nothing special. Stayed in one of the courtyard rooms. Corridors smell a bit damp and some windows in room didn't fit properly and were stuffed with paper to keep out the cold air. Unfortunately it doesn't keep out the noise from the operational area of the hotel and when there was a music event on. Tried restaurant for dinner once - like many places seemed to be suffering from too few trained staff. Food disappointing. All things considered an average hotel and not up to other Mercure hotels I have stayed in

Hotel looks first rate, but my colleague reported a broken shower within 1/2 hour of arrival at 16:30, this still wasn't fixed by the morning, and they did not offer to move him room, or apply a discount!, luckily his room was close to mine so he used my room facilities, not what you would expect. Also if you end up in a courtyard room expect to be awoken at around 05:30 by the staff taking in deliveries, and moving items out on metal trolleys over cobbled walkways. extremely noisy, and annoying.

Stayed in room 72 at the top of one of the towers, it was warm up there, and 10 mins later someone barged in and was checking if the room had been made up, it seemed to be so I sent her on her way, later I found a used towel that they did replaced, so I was not convinced it had been done thoroughly! , I paid on arrival including breakfast. next morning I went to breakfast and I was not showing on their list, but still managed to get it, indicating their processes are not the best. Next day I woke around 3am as it was warmish and decided to get up a leave to miss the traffic getting back to London, I left around 4am and notcied on reception there was a phone to call the night person, I did, and got a blunt 'sleepy' answer saying just leave your card there, despite the card having no reference to any room!, so I grabbed a piece of paper and pen from the counter and left my card and note given my room number, the chap that answered did not seem to care about my request for a receipt for my stay and said again 'sleepy' they will send an email with my receipt, and also as I left before breakfast, I did not have it for which I paid for on arrival, wonder if they will return this fee ! ummm

Great weekend away
Great stay! Weekend away with my wife staff are hugely helpful and can't do enough. We went to the spa and had treatments again everything was perfect. Only thing to be mindful of is its obviously a lovely old building so our room always quite warm but a fan was provided so wasn't an issue.
