  • The Rio Grande River winds 12 miles down Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. When the water is high you can come down the 1,500 foot walled canyon. With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

  • The Closed Canyon hike in Big Bend Ranch State Park was completely deserted when we went on a Tuesday in April. We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. Room was clean. Check in time was 3:00. We were there about 3:30. Had to walk around to find someone that worked there to get the key. The guy was not friendly or welcoming at all. Website should state that GPS will not get you to the address stated. Had to drive around and finally ask someone after we went 20 minutes out of the way.

Staff were very nice especially when we got there a day early. They were able to provide us an available room. Room was very clean. No issues at all.

The distance described prior to booking showed around 16 minutes from Big Bend National Park, that was very misleading, drove for 1 hour instead.swimming pool didn’t look good.

The heater in our room stopped working at midnight. We froze. We didn’t contact the host because we were so exhausted and would have had to move all of our stuff. The light between the beds wouldn’t work and was missing a shade. The bed was comfortable. I wish we would have known there was no TV in the room so we could have brought a laptop or something. We came in late and had no idea where our room was and there was no one to ask, so my husband had to walk the rooms in the cold until he found ours. It would have been nice to have a little map showing us where to go in the dark. Overall the room didn’t meet our basic needs with the heater not working but we made do.

Our trip to the Longhorn Ranch Motel exceeded our expectations. My daughter and I were traveling alone to visit Big Bend and I was a little nervous about the remoteness of the trip. We felt completely safe, the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was also kind and considerate. We had a short drive to the park with a convenient gas station on the way! I would recommend this motel to anyone taking a trip to the area.

Good location close to the national park and state park. Beautiful ground. Called twice before my trip and staff answered phone quickly and offered instructions clearly. Checking in and out was smooth. I did not get to meet the staff because of the time I left and returned during my stay. Restaurant closed at 4 so I didn't get to try the food. Overall a very pleasant stay.

You are out in the country in the desert. For us, this was a plus. So incrediblty quiet, peaceful and great scenery. Millions of stars with a brilliant twinkling Milky Way at night. Easy to find and lots of free parking. Staff cooked to order; wonderful breakfast. Friendly privately owned property. It is pet friendly but none were there when we stayed. Barking dogs would have ruined it. Highly recommend to adventurous outdoor types. Would definitely stay again.

Exactly as advertised. Clean, quiet, nice pool, within 15 minutes of Terlingua and Big Bend National Park. The restaurant next door had great pancakes. Beautiful views of the stars!

This property was between Alpine and Terlingua, so it is pretty remote. The area is beautiful and the motel property was cute. The room was clean, my only criticism is the beds were too firm for my liking. Otherwise, it was a perfect stay. I definitely recommend.
