Bond and Beyond: Celebrating 50 Years of 007. Great symphony pops concert focused primarily on Bond theme music. Other highlights included the Austin Powers theme and the Mission Impossible theme. One more show Sunday at 2pm.

Fantastic Pops concert, particularly if you enjoy show tunes. Brian Stokes Mitchell was incredible - amazing voice and wonderful stage presence. Highlights included "Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha and "This Nearly was Mine" from South Pacific, which he sang unplugged (no mic) - first time we've seen that at Benaroya. If you have some free time this weekend, go get tickets.

A Quintessential Art Deco Skyscraper

This Art Deco landmark in downtown Seattle, was designed and built to be "A Modern Office Building of Distinction and Character Combining Beauty and Utility”
Designed by architect Abraham Horace Albertson, with Joseph Wade Wilson and Paul David Richardson, It costed about $2 million and took a year to build. It was described as:

"With its muscular vertical piers and tapering setbacks, the Seattle Tower is considered Seattle's quintessential Art Deco skyscraper … The client wanted a building that would be a symbol of reliability and permanence and the architects responded with a building that was intended to suggest the mountains that surround Seattle. The multi-colored brick becomes gradually lighter as it reaches the top of the building and the piers are finished with light terra-cotta resembling snow-capped rocky peaks. Stylized metal rods resembling evergreen trees crown the building ..."
