What an incredible experience

I had an idea that this place was unique from the reviews I had read. What I didn’t know was the amazing history and story of the moon hole community. During our stay I read a book about the Burke house / moon hole and it’s builder Tom. I found it absolutely fascinating. This place was an onion to me, learning more and more with every layer of its charm and story revealed. The burke house has profoundly touch us with its natural architecture that seamlessly blends inside with the outdoors. Stargazing nightly as the firefly’s dance and sunset dinners that has to be seen to truly understand it’s beauty. Time seems to slow down here and we were able to disconnect from our busy lives to relax and recharge. Our hosts were super friendly and accommodating for us which was a warm touch to the experience. I fully recommend the Burke House to all those that seek out special things in life that are out of the ordinary.

Magical Stay

The Burke House at Moonhole is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for a magical getaway. This place boasts panoramic views from both sides of the peninsula and has a natural a/c from the ocean breeze. There are adventurous hikes throughout the property that lead to the beach and other interesting places all surrounded by beautiful flora and fauna. Doro was our chef who treated us like family and cooked us local dishes that were better than restaurants. We were completely enchanted and without a doubt, this was one the best experiences we’ve had! I look forward to going back there soon!

STAYING in a movie like setting.

I rarely go on vacation where I don't want to explore the local sites. The Burke House at Moonhole was so incredibly unique that we did not want to leave. To top it off, Doro our cook provided incredible meals and being a native provided us with an interesting history of the community. if you need the comforts of an enclosed air conditionef bed this is not the place for you. If you are willing to embrace the adventure of the most amazing and scenic residence you might ever experience, book it. We plan to go back next year

Wonderful place, Doro makes it perfect!

Historic location, there's incredible history in Moonhole. Doro, the cook, made our stay perfect! She's warm and charming and the food was excellent. Local dishes with a homemade feel. I can't say enough about the grand impact she had on our stay. The house is very open and airy. The ocean breeze blowing through is intoxicating. Falling asleep to crashing waves is an experience in itself. The only thing I would make renters aware of is the trek to the house. The trip from where the cars drop people to the house contains a lot of irregular stairs. Otherwise the location is perfect. High on a hill overlooking both sides of the point. Wonderful place.

Moonhole is a great Bequia Experience!

We enjoyed our honeymoon very much at Burke House. Moonhole is an interesting area of the island. An unusual amount of rain brought an unusual number of mosquitoes, though. Doro is a wonderful hostess and cook. If we travel to Bequia again, it will be in the winter season to avoid mosquitoes. Bequia is a beautiful island.

AHHHHHMAAAAZZZZING!!!!!!!

We had the most incredible experience, from booking the Burke House to taking a private plane from the Bequia airport to the St. Vincent airport to fly back to the states. Lusan is fabulous to work with, and she is very responsive! She is a beautiful woman with a hearty, contagious laugh! We travel worldwide, and our three-week stay at the Burke House is our most favorite trip anywhere!! The house is ideally situated to enjoy both the Atlantic and Caribbean oceans! Every morning we would sit on the Atlantic-facing porch and read, drink coffee and take in the breathtaking view! We would enjoy our dinners there every night as well. We would take in the Caribbean-facing views every morning, eating our delicious breakfasts! Now, for all our meals - Moravia (Marva) was our cook, and she created chef-like meals for every single meal - from homemade bread to conch curries! Moravia would go food shopping with us at the harbor, which was always a fun day! We worked with each other's schedules for our meals! Moravia is the most incredible person we have ever met! She is very sweet, thoughtful, and she always has a smile on her face! As a local, she knows the lay of the land and gave us great tips on places to check out! We will definitely ask that she be our cook again during our next stay! We miss her!! Moravia and Lusan exude the warmth and friendliness of Bequia Island! Thank you both for making our stay an AHHHHHMAAAAZZZZING one!!

Paradise!

Burke House is the perfect place to get away from it all! Stunning views in every direction, peaceful, quiet, and serenely tranquil. Lusan is a wonderful host…easy communication, wonderfully helpful, and so sweet! It was a pleasure to meet her, her husband John, and her 2 dogs! And we can’t say enough about Doro, our cook and housekeeper. She is amazing! Cooked us wonderful meals, breakfast , lunch and dinner. With her cooking, there’s no reason to leave! Her key lime pie is the best we’ve ever tasted!

Exactly as advertised

Lusan and Marva (our cook and organiser) met us off the ferry from St. Vincent. We went to the grocery store and then headed for Moonhole. It really is 100 steps up from the stone path near the beach but the view in both directions is worth. the climb The cottage is comfortable and very well kept - huge doors and windows are left open,. although we closed them one evening for a while because our playing cards kept blowing off the table! We asked for fresh fish and got lobster/langouste/crayfish, barracuda, and conch.. Marva had baked fresh bread before we arrived, and made 3 meals a day for us, except for a couple of days with mid-day excursions. The view in both directions is spectacular - boats heading south in the morning on the leeward side; sunset and the Grenadines on the windward side. The beach immediately below can be difficult to enter when the wind is blowing, but a 10 minute walk on the beach takes you to the calm bay in front of The Liming resort. Highly recommended - we hope to return another year.

The most relaxing vacation we’ve ever had.

If you’ve ever dreamed of having your own island getaway, Burke House comes as close as you can get without buying an island. We’ve been to a lot of islands—from Fiji to Cozumel to the Bahamas—Bequia is by far our favorite. Lusan warmly greeted us at the dock like we were family. We threw our bags in her large blue LandRover and we were off on the narrow, winding road to Moon Hole (about a 20-minute ride). We followed Lusan up the native stone walkway that meanders with switchbacks up to Burke House. Before scaling the last of the steps, Lusan grabbed a metal bar attached to a large iron ring hanging from a tree—the “doorbell”—and clanged it to announce our arrival. That’s when Marva greeted us on the patio above, wiping her hands on her apron. Burke House is a solid stone structure perched at the top of a ridge with breathtaking views overlooking the Caribbean on one side and the Atlantic on the other. To say this place comes with your own cook doesn’t fully do it justice. We have a new BFF and her name is Marva. What a delightful human being. She shopped for all our groceries and created our meals with a distinctive island flare. Breakfasts included fresh-baked bread and fruit—the Grenadines have sixty varieties of mangoes—as well as locally-grown vegetables and farm-fresh eggs. Each morning we would wake to the “doorbell” clanging and Marva’s sunny personality and delicious omelets. She would return hours later in time to prepare our twilight dinners that ranged from lobster and black fin tuna to mouth-watering curries. Afterward, Marva turned down our bed and made her way back with the aid of a lantern and the big Caribbean moon to her own home down the beach. Burke House felt like living in a tree house—if tree houses had stone walls two feet thick—with million-dollar views. The trade winds kept us cool 24/7, blowing almond blossoms through the house and keeping the mosquitoes at bay—there were also repellents and coils available for the nighttime. We slept in the four-poster bed with an attached mosquito net that definitely did the job. The toilet and shower are alfresco, providing gorgeous views without sacrificing privacy. During our seven days in this paradise we saw only three other people who may have been tourists. We never saw another person on the beach—not one. A heartfelt thanks to Lusan, John, Marva, Ted, Baldwin, and Brian, for letting us share your beautiful life for seven glorious days. Patrick & Silvia Austin, Texas

Burke House, Moon Hole, Bequia...Paradise Found

Burke House is located in the most beautiful corner of the world I have seen. The house is totally open to nature, and allows you to decompress from the “real world”. The sound of the waves crashing on the rocks in the sea below you, 24/7, and beautiful bird song was the soundtrack for our vacation. No tv or radio necessary. Views out to the Atlantic on one side of the house and views back to St. Vincent and the Caribbean Sea on the other side. There are other stone homes in the area, but more than likely you will never see another person in the Moon Hole community. Total privacy. As is the case with any property like this one, mosquitos are a part of the deal. They seemed to be at their worst in the early morning, but the bed does have a mosquito net and as long as you are aware of them ahead of time, you can protect yourself in a variety of ways. Mosquito spray and peppermint soap seemed to help....bug resistant clothing, coils, etc. Certainly not a reason to avoid this property...just a heads up to prepare for the mosquitos. You will be glad you did. The most rewarding part of this property rental was Marva, without a doubt. She is so sweet, and truly an amazing chef. She will make you second guess that ridiculously fancy kitchen you have built at home, because she is pumping out world class food from a basic kitchen with a simple stove. 😀 She also kept the house extremely tidy our entire stay. I loved our conversations every day too. Such an unexpected treat getting to know her. She quickly felt like a part of our family, and it was sad saying goodbye. We love you Marva! Bequia truly is a special place. So rent a car and see as much of the island as you can. But also don’t forget to just take a deep breath, make some coffee, maybe hop in a hammock, and read a great book at Burke House. Few places in the world encourage ‘being present’ quite like this one.

Marvelous Experience, Unique Location and Very Special People

We must say that we fell in love with so many things while at the Burke House we can only scratch the surface with the following comments. We found other reviews here and elsewhere on the internet for the Burke House helpful and informative before we left on our vacation, and hope that our words do as well. Why this is such a special place in no particular order - views surpassed by few other places in the world, constant breezes, sailboats plying the blue waters all day, Marva the caring cook was a true resource and a great human being who we will remain friends with forever, the unique architecture and history of Moonhole was fascinating, constant breezes until early morning never allowed us to get too hot, warm ocean waters were gorgeous and clear, friendly people were always willing to help, it was a perfect place for a private and quiet vacation, little need to get to town as Marva provides but we did go one day and shopped a little in some nice shops and had lunch, small town is easily seen in a couple of hours, Iggy the Iguana is a hoot - don't worry he is not aggressive and stays outside and seldom seen Things to be aware of but were never a problem - Burke House is not for someone who needs the amenities of a resort or can't go with the flow with a positive attitude and embrace the adventure, mosquitoes at night are plentiful so pack repellent and coils - although the wind helps a lot as does the netting on the bed we nonetheless brought some anti-bug clothing, no TV despite what the description may indicate, WIFI on the island is often intermittent, location requires some walking up and down on stone and cement steps and paths - we are in our early seventies in reasonable shape and did not find it very difficult, it only takes 5-10 minutes at a slow pace to get to the beach and parking area to meet a taxi, the private beach is a bit rocky and can be a bit rough but we found it beautiful and relaxing in the lounges - there are other beaches on the island are good for swimming, tanning and walking but we never found the need. Many, many thanks to Marva and Doro, and Lusan who unfortunately was away while we were there. We had a wonderful vacation in a very unique piece of paradise that we will cherish the rest of lives, and hope to return. Robin and Chip

Beautiful place, awesome views, and peaceful times

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Burke House! When planning our stay, Lusan was very responsive to all questions. She picked us up at the ferry terminal, and arranged for a rental car. Marva was totally appreciated! She made our stay a special experience by shopping for supplies prior to our arrival, cooking excellent meals (while catering to our vegetarian diets), and keeping the house clean. (Thanks, Marva!!) We spent much of our time just relaxing and enjoying the awesomeness of the place. We loved our regular visitors: Carib Grackles, Bananaquits, Antillean Crested Hummingbirds, an iguana, and various lizards. The Bananaquits and the Hummingbirds appreciated a full hummingbird feeder! Burke House (and Moonhole) really is a special place of which we will always have great memories.

Stunning Views

Everything that you read about this property is true. The views are fantastic! The house itself is one of a kind, you will never experience anything like this again. Marva is simply the best. If you need anything, she is your girl! Can't thank Lusan enough for helping to arrange things for us. She greeted us warmly at the ferry, we were so happy to see her. This property will not disappoint!

Amazing

We arrived at Burke House with so many expectations and every one of them was met. I can't describe the beauty that surrounds the home. On one side an expansive view of the Caribbean Sea on the other side the Atlantic. One of the most challenging decisions of the day was which view we wanted at the moment. The semi outdoor washrooms were breathtaking also with views of the Caribbean Sea from the open air windows. The beds were extremely comfortable as were the furnishings thru out the home. The Island itself is absolutely charming and the people so helpful and friendly. We took an amazing trip to Tobago Cay to swim with the turtles. The hospitality and friendliness shown to us on the trip by Mike (Mike's Boar Tours) and his assistant Sherra were above the top. The town of Port Elizabeth was lovely. Their main boardwalk is lined with quaint restaurants and shops along a pristne white sand beach. My husband and I love to dine at different restaurants and had planned to eat out a few nights. However the ambiance of Burke House surpassed the beauty of the boardwalk and we ended up eating in every night. Lusan the owner was one of the sweetest and helpful persons we could have met. Ditto for Marva our cook/housekeeper who went out of he way to make everything perfect for us. Thank you Lusan and Marva for providing us with an experience of a lifetime.

A dream of a lifetime!

Sigh.... I miss you so! Burke House was a spectacular end to a wonderful holiday. A stellar romantic location, if you want some privacy and a little peace. It is very difficult to describe really. Something from the Flinstones, the whole history of Moonhole was very intreguing. The views, the breezes, and Marva, bless her! Clear blue ocean, a beach walk to a nearby resort for a Pina Colada. Was just what our hearts and souls needed. You need to be a bit of an adventurer. No glass in the windows, so breezes and birds pass through. (Very cool as far as I was concerned!) A few annoying mosquitoes at times, so bring your bug spray and itch cream. But well worth the minor inconvenience, for all the rest this hidden gem had to offer. Would go again in a heartbeat. Thank you so very much!

If you're looking for a unique place in paradise, you found it!

Burke House and the Moonhole area in general is one of the most unique little corners of the world. Google it; so much history! The views are breathtaking, the house is one of a kind and Lusan & team are just fantastic to work with. Actually, everyone we met on Bequia was delightful, extremely warm and very welcoming. Bequia, with only about 4000 people felt like home, right away. A sweet community with a unique look on life... :) Not having to close any doors or windows at Burke House all week was fantastic; you fall asleep hearing the waves, feeling the breeze and getting to know the local animal life and their noises! We were visited by hundreds of geckos, a large iguana that we called "Mister Sweetie", butterflies, birds and bugs (of course). The views you wake up to are second to none; the Atlantic on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other. Idyllic. The location of Burke House is just perfect. If you are looking for more hustle and bustle, you'd want to be around Admiralty Bay, but we wanted peace and quiet, and we got that at Burke House. We rented a Jeep and the drive was 25 minutes (through Paget Farm and La Pompe) to get to Port Elizabeth where the port, shops and some restaurants are. So you have to be up for a drive, whenever you want to go out anywhere. But everything is close; it's not a big island. Wave to EVERYONE; they love it and will wave back! We LOVED our time, the views are breaktaking, everywhere! Burke House is up on a hill but we embraced/loved the walk up and down every day. Just embrace the "breathing" you need to do ;) We enjoyed the Moonhole beach area which really just felt like our own! No one was around as it was off-season. Doro (such a sweetheart!) cooked any meal for us that we asked for, at whatever time. She was lovely, extremely communicative and your enjoyment is important to her. The pictures posted of the house and area are very accurate! It's truly a unique place in the heart of a nature reserve... There are ways to try to protect yourself from mosquito bites but you WILL get bitten that that's just something you have to expect and accept! Showering al fresco was fun and very different! No one can see you so just go for it and don't bother with the curtains! I'd recommend a stay here if you are wanting a truly "outdoorsy" experience, with breathtaking views, delicious home cooked meals (try Doro's curry chicken or creole fish), a fun "jungle" vibe around the area, relaxation and -- peace and quiet!

Spectacular views and the best Calaloo Soup

We enjoyed our experience at Burke House. The views are absolutely breathtaking. Our cook and housekeeper, Doro, looked after us beautifully. We especially enjoyed her Calaloo Soup!!! We counted the steps up from the beach, 110 steps up to the house. We managed it twice a day most days, the views are truly spectacular and worth the effort. Our stay was in July and the mosquitos were out in force, we managed with various repellents, coils and Doro's help. The sound of the waves and the views...we will definitely be back.

Delightful stay.

The house is unique and very pleasant to stay in, with two patios, three hammocks, lots of choices in terms of sun and shade and loads of books to read. We particularly enjoyed having a cook who made lovely dinners that we were not expecting (ask her for Callaloo Soup!), and Lusan (the host) collected some groceries and picked us up at the ferry terminal when we arrived on the island. We really enjoyed or stay and would unreservedly recommend it to others.

What an Amazing and truly Incredible vacation had at the Burke House

My wife and I just returned from our first trip to Bequia. It won't be our last. Bequia is a beautiful Island. What made our vacation so wonderful though is the place we called home while we were there. We stayed on the southwest end of the small island in a secluded peaceful area called Moonhole. Its quiet and just a hop skip and a jump from the little villages around the Island. The House we stayed in is called the Burke House. Just an incredibly beautiful stone house built with an open air sort of setup. It has windows and doors that can be closed if it's storming out but you don't really need that option. Some light rain blew through a couple times so we shut the front door for a few minutes but opened it back up as soon as the clouds passed by. Lusan makes sure everything that needs to be taken care of for your vacation here is just right from Travel tips to getting you picked up and dropped off at your arrival and is always around if anything or any advice is needed either for the home or the Island in general. Marva comes with the house. LOL. Marva What a sweetheart Marva is. She is a fantastic cook and that smile on her face and laughter makes the time spent inside the house in anticipation of Marvas next meal a fun time. Marva is also a very helpful person with her knowledge of the area as she was raised just a mile or so away in the Village of Paget Farm. We usually prepared our own breakfast of eggs or whatever but Marva had the bread and cinnamon rolls and banana bread there for us. We did have Marva prepare our dinners though and had so many delicious meals of Lobster or Conch or Pork Chops, Chicken. Marva makes everything taste delicious. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes to walk up the stone path and steps leading from the secluded Moonhole beach area up to the doorway of the Burke House. Come and go as you please as you can relax right there in any of the several hammocks or built in sofas or chairs with some of the most amazing views you will ever see from the large deck facing the South towards Mustique and other Grenadine Islands or the North Deck facing the Caribbean and St. Vincent just a dozen or so miles away. The views from every single room in the house are incredible. Right up to sitting on the toilet looking out to the hillside and sea. You could spend a lot of time right there and be just fine. Water is from the rain and is fine to drink and very soft. The shower gets hot also so no worries about that. Thanks Lusan

Not Many Places on Earth as Beautiful as this

Everyone has a different view of what paradise is , This is mine, a week away from everything except my wife and daughter. You are so removed from any hussel and hassel of life in Bequia that it has no comparison. The Burke House is not foe everyone, but it was sure right for me and my family, If your not a bit adventuresome and out of shape forget it. If you want to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean crashing on the rocks both north and south of you see spectacular views 24/7, a week of being off the grid and enjoying the absolute beauty of nature. After 16 trips to the various Islands of the Caribbean I think I have found my favorite. This is not a pampered trip to an all inclusive resort this is breath in breath out and enjoy!
