My Worst Ever Expedia Booking: A Cautionary Tale
I’ve been booking through Expedia for over ten years now — more than 40 stays in total — and I can honestly say I’ve rarely felt the need to write a review. But this last trip was so bad that I feel compelled to share my experience as a warning to others.
When I booked this flat, the photos looked fine — neat, simple, nothing fancy. What Expedia didn’t show, however, was the front of the building. If they had, I might have thought twice. The flat sits directly beneath a Subway restaurant, and from the moment we arrived, the smell of fast food filled the air. It wasn’t just a passing whiff; it was constant — from early morning until late at night.
To make matters worse, deliveries for the restaurant started around 5:00 a.m. every day. The noise was impossible to ignore, and needless to say, “peaceful mornings” weren’t part of the experience.
Inside, the property looked tired and poorly maintained. Several fittings were literally hanging from the wall by a single screw. On our second night, I got a call from the property company telling me there was a leak — one they claimed we had caused. I had to leave my family in the middle of dinner and rush back, only to find no leak at all. It completely ruined our evening for no reason.
But the worst part of all? The flat happens to be just seven metres from a pub that blasts loud music until 2:00 a.m. When the music finally stops, the noise doesn’t — people spill out onto the street, dri
