The Neighborhood:
Discover the lively, everyday side of Catania, close to the historic centre and the port. This is a setting for travellers who enjoy exploring a city through its streets, local food and architecture.
Head towards Castello Ursino and the surrounding streets, then explore the Pescheria, Catania’s traditional fish market, where stalls and vendors bring the city’s food culture to life. Continue to Piazza del Duomo to admire the Cathedral of Sant’Agata and the Elephant Fountain, before following Via Etnea through the centre.
Along the way, stop for an espresso, sample an arancino or settle into a trattoria for a plate of pasta alla Norma. From historic sights to Sicilian flavours, the neighbourhood offers plenty of reasons to take your time and explore on foot.
Getting Around:
Catania’s historic centre is best explored on foot, allowing you to enjoy its markets, squares and food stops at your own pace.
From Catania Fontanarossa Airport, you can reach the apartment by taxi or take the Alibus service towards the city centre and complete the journey on foot or by taxi. Alibus also connects the airport with Catania Centrale railway station.
If you arrive by train, a taxi from Catania Centrale is a convenient option, especially with luggage.
A car can be useful for trips beyond the city, including Mount Etna and other destinations along Sicily’s eastern coast. Paid parking is available off premises; check local signs for parking conditions and charges.
