Bill and Cynthia were the warmest and most welcoming hosts. The house sits on a large plot between Bill and Cynthia’s home and a large barn for the care of the multitude of animals that you will find here: Chickens, Goats, Horses, and Cows among others. Beware the guard dog! She will smother you with affection and she sheds all year.As far as the house itself, wow! It is a treasure trove of history, older than Monticello, it is filled with fascinating books and memorabilia that would take a lifetime to take in if you so choose. The rooms and beds are spacious and comfortable, and Cynthia and Bill have taken many steps to make your stay as cozy as possible. For an older home it still has the modern touch: brand new fridge, dishwasher, oven, and microwave. A big screen tv can be found on the ground level in a large seating area with a recliner and a couch, which is heated by a gas fire and/or a space heater. The water pressure can be a little lacking sometimes but you can adjust the heating and that brings the pressure back up. Not sure how the house performs in the warmer days but it is very comfortable in the cold. The fire pit is a bit a ways away from the house but there’s plenty of firewood available and Bill makes sure to stay well stocked!Conveniently located near Charlottesville but well away from the hustle and bustle. If you are looking for peace and rest this would be a perfect spot.
