Position was fantastic with great outlook over fields, a pub next door (no noise at all during week) and a lovely farm shop down the road (fairly steep hill if walking).
House was, on face value, clean and tidy with everything we needed, although a tea towel and torches would have been nice.
Before arriving we asked the head of the maintenance team if we could get in early so that we could get a late Sunday lunch at the local pub and they were happy to let us in an hour early. Thank you. However, unknown to us the previous guests were late leaving meaning the cleaning team were pushed for time. This was evident by the hot tub, which had either not been emptied/refilled or had been done in a hurry (the hot tub had a child's hair-clip at the bottom and the water had a few black ‘bits’ floating). In addition, when we moved one of the armchairs a foot or so in the lounge to catch more of the sun, underneath was a wet, soiled nappy. We reported these issues to the head of the maintenance team who apologised and explained that the cleaners had supplied photos of the cleaned hot tub but offered to clean the hot tub again. This would mean the hot tub taking another 24 hours to get up to temperature so we declined.
We were confused that the guest instructions indicated strictly no candles and yet there were a number of tea lights and holders dotted around the house.
Unfortunately for two nights, the ‘guests’ at Rowan House were noisy into the early hours, eating and drinking loudly in the garden, although of course this is not the fault of the owners at Maple House, just highlights the issue if other guests show little respect for others.
Despite the few issues highlighted, this is a great place for a family holiday.
Definitely recommend visiting the Cotswold Motor Museum in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway and the brewery tour at Hook Norton.
