While the exterior of this property is the stuff of Grecian dreams, the interior experience felt more like a nightmare.
After scoping this property on foot for days while staying in Old Corfu Town, I had high hopes for my two-night stay.
I was disillusioned to note upon check in I faced multiple flights of winding stairs to climb through the sweat lodge of this old building to an upper floor. Difficult to traverse with multiple pieces of luggage in sweltering June heat, it took several trips and a break outside as the heat was intolerable (note: I am a fitness instructor. Physical ability is not an issue, so if I'm struggling, imagine someone with other abilities).
I battled with the matrix of doors and keys to gain entrance for over fifteen minutes. Obviously it takes a Ph.D. in door opening to work this one -- frustrating and nerve-wracking.
The apartment itself left so much to be desired - hot thick air, mold on baseboards, a constant smell of rotting vinegar, cheap furniture, a thin mattress, irrelevant, useless kitchen space. A complete let down. What was a peaceful oasis during my 7am morning walk turned into one of the busiest corners of Old Corfu Town by 10am with hoards of yelling tour groups scrambling through the tiny passageways below.
There was nothing redeeming or romantic in this space; I envisioned two days of sleepless hot nights in this mis-advertised dump.
The travel company denied my claims and refused to refund me.
