This house was perfect for our family get-away. We spent most of our time outside on the back patio area or around the pool. Both are nice areas with plenty of room. The lake view in back is grown up significantly more than shown in pictures but we enjoyed searching for and watching the wildlife. Provided pool towels are a great perk. The hosts are very friendly and promptly answered any questions.

Perfect for Family Vacation

We were a group of 6 adults, 2 teens, and 3 kids ad we all loved staying here. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and the pool fit all 11 of us, no problem. It was hard to get the kids to leave the pool to do anything else, but they also enjoyed the dock down to the lake where they saw frogs, turtles, deer, and all kinds of other wildlife. Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect family getaway spot

The house was large enough for me and my 2 brothers and some of our kids to stay. The 3 bedrooms on the main level was nice to each have a room for the adult couples. The spiral staircase to the lower level was a little small so you should definitely unload all kitchen items (which is on the lower level around the stairs to the back, the lights and dining table out back were nice. We ate most of our meals outside since it was so nice. the lake was not really inviting and pretty mucked but the pool on site more than made up for that. Great location and quiet area. good to have the 2 bathrooms and enjoyed having the use of the grill. the owners were very responsive when we had questions. Bed were comfy. couple small minor things that were in need of repair but nothing that would give this place a bad rating. Great getaway house for the family.

What an amazing family vacation

This was the perfect family vacation for my family and my brother’s family to come together for week (we live 12 hours apart) and spend the week soaking up the sun, playing, fishing, and relaxing. Cannot wait to return next year!

Highly Recommend!

I can't think of a thing I would change and we have rented a different VRBO every year for 13 years now.. This place was very clean, spacious and had everything you could need. Everything was high quality, well decorated and homey. The pool was beautiful and so was the scenic backyard. Porches were awesome for getting out of the sun or sitting out to safely watch a summer storm roll in (which i love on a lake vacation). Lots of day trip/outings options close by. We recommend MA's Fillipino restaurant and Lakeside Power sports dor jetski rental. House was more than enough room for 5 adults and a dog. Could easily accomodate more. We had a wonderful time!

Beautiful home

Like some other reviewers have said, the set up of the house is unconventional, but it worked out fine for us! A couple of us weren’t huge fans of the spiral staircase, but I like that you can walk outside if you don’t want to use the spiral staircase. We enjoyed our short stay and would definitely stay here again!

Nice Lakeside Cottage

This was a great cottage! It features a beautiful back patio overlooking a small arm of Lake of Egypt. One thing to know: the kitchen is downstairs, and the stairs inside the cottage are a metal spiral staircase; if you're bringing in groceries, you'll probably want to carry them in through the door downstairs. There's a meat smoker (no propane grill or anything like that, but the meat smoker is very straightforward to use). With three bedrooms, it's most comfortable if you fit in with just those, but we had more people and made it work -- we still had a lovely time. Beautiful area: check out Makanda and Giant City State Park while you're in Southern IL, or go fishing on Lake of Egypt!

Yearly Family Getaway

The pool was wonderful! The beds were comfortable. The upstairs living room was very nice. We spent most evenings up there. Lake Egypt was clean and fishing, boating and kayaking were great! We left the grill and charcoal for the next guests. Wish the downstairs area was better arranged for larger groups (there were 9 of us). Switching out the bed for the couches would be a good start. Then the table could be placed in an area that is easier to access.

Strange layout

This property is not for someone who cannot do stairs. The kitchen is down a spiral staircase in the basement while the living area is upstairs. The dock is located with no water (so no fishing there) and zero view of the lake with the stairs down to the dock unsafe. The pool and upstairs were nice but we felt like we were constantly going up and down stairs to get a drink or snack. The host was very nice and extremely helpful with our questions.

Quiet Country Retreat

This is the second year my family has stayed at this property. The property is clean and well maintained. The pool offered plenty of space for our group of 12. The option to use the dock is very convenient if you are bringing your boat or renting one like we did. The host is friendly and very responsive and lives nearby. We truly enjoyed our time here!

Nice property, it just didn’t work well for us

The property was very nice, and was exactly as it was depicted in the description. However, we experienced several snags during our trip. No instructions ever mentioned that it was the upstairs back door that would be the entry door to the property. We had to search to find how to get in. We were never able to find the accessible boat dock from the water. Directions from the marina to the property would have been nice. We knew about the spiral staircase, but it was much more of a hindrance than we could have imagined. Most of us ended up going outside to get to the upstairs. The kitchen was not set up for 8 people. There was not enough silverware and there was no mixer that we could find. When we left, all the doors locked from the inside, so we had to leave one door unlocked when we left. The saving grace was the pool. We all enjoyed it immensely. Again, this was a very nice property, it was just not good for our particular family and could have had clearer instructions on some of the details.

Lovely Pool

We had a great time hanging out in the pool. The pool was clean and the perfect temp, we never wanted to get out. We had a couple scares, wolf spider downstairs and a huge snake on the top deck, but just be aware! The beds were comfy and we had a great time at many wineries.
