We chose this property because the description included lake access, suitability for children, and room for 12 people. It also listed several activities, and that meant we could have most of our family time at the property. A very important feature, since our children are not yet eligible for the COVID vaccine.
The home was plenty large enough for our group, and was VERY clean. The home theater/game room was OK-broken game equipment.
Unfortunately the owner, Jenel, was unavailable to resolve the “inconveniences” we encountered during our stay - such as not enough towels, extra bed linens (essential when vacationing with young children), dishes, silverware, paper towels, dishwasher soap or trash bags to accommodate 12 people for a week.
Several safety issues were also noted, particularly concerning when young children were in the house. Safety issues included loose stone steps outdoors, the storage area roof was easily accessible and had no rail to prevent falling off, exposed carpet tacks in stairway, no handle on the screen door and the opening had sharp edges that were inadequately covered with painter’s tape, and a rusty and broken radiator in the upstairs bathroom.
The owner also misrepresented the availability of lake access. The property is part of a private community. We were told by the property manager of the community that renters are not allowed in the lake as we attempted a morning paddle. This was news to us as we had received several communications from the owner with information about how to access the lake (and that there would even be a paddle boat). When we attempted to contact the owner about this issue, she claimed the lake was being treated and that was why we would not have access. Sensing that the story was not adding up, we called the property manager. She stated that the lake was not being treated and that guests do not have access because of the community’s insurance policy. Furthermore, she stated that the owner is well aware of this policy. If you are planning on renting this property for the lake access and have received assurances from the owner that you will have access, you are being misled.
Jenel’s multiple misrepresentations in her property listing, poor communication, lack of availability to resolve issues during our stay, and lackluster management of her property ensure that We would never stay in this property again. Renters beware!l
