The lighthouse on Gabo Island guards the eastern entrance to Bass Strait in #Australia. It is an active navigation lighthouse and weather station for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
It was built in 1853 from red granite sourced on the island. The wind blew down the windbreak wall, so buttresses were added for stability.
We went to the top for perfect 360 degree views on a blue sky day.
Access to the island is generally by boat and one can stay overnight!

« We had a brilliant week at Vista views.The house was exactly as described and as shown in the photos. The balcony bar is amazing for breakfast and watching the water below. The house is well equipped, modern and open plan with good air con for a heatwave.The location was perfect for us, 5 min walk down to inlet for paddle boarding/fishing or 30 min walk along boardwalk to coffee/ice cream.The house was perfect for our family of 4 and we'd love to return »
