The lighthouse on Gabo Island guards the eastern entrance to Bass Strait in #Australia. It is an active navigation lighthouse and weather station for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. It was built in 1853 from red granite sourced on the island. The wind blew down the windbreak wall, so buttresses were added for stability. We went to the top for perfect 360 degree views on a blue sky day. Access to the island is generally by boat and one can stay overnight! #Hiking #Blue #Outdoors
"Blue Sky" Gabo Island Lighthouse Reserve is operated by Parks Victoria, who can be contacted for overnight stays in the Caretaker's accommodation. Chance Brothers & Co. - Lighthouse Engineers & Constructors from near Birmingham, England commenced building the lighthouse in 1860. Le bungalow était bien. Par contre la chambre avec les lits superposés. Il n'y a pas bcp d'espace entre les lits. La SDB est correcte. La terrasse est sympa mais n'a que deux chaises si plus de personnes pas pratique. Laverie disponible 6$ chaque machine. Cuisine plutÎt bien équipée. Manque toutefois ...
