Upon our arrival, we were touring the cabin when my daughter and nephew came across a bat in the master bedroom, just above the jetted tub. We contacted the emergency contact number with no response and a full voicemail. Then we sent a text to the same number and finally was told we would have to remove the bat ourselves as no one was available until the following day to assist in removal. As you can imagine this was a very creepy experience and also quite disheartening to encounter after traveling many hours to our destination, and then facing a potentially disease carrying animal in the main bedroom of the home; that we had paid many thousands of dollars to rent.
After returning home and many emails back and forth with the host,… we were told the owner was unwilling to even refund one nights rental fee to compensate us for the horrible experience. While it was not necessarily their fault, there is a small window in the master bathroom with no screen. It is my guess that the previous renter left this window open, allowing the bat to enter the third floor/master bedroom. So, the owner should have a screen on the window to prevent such a situation. It was really disappointing the owner didn’t feel as if they should do anything to right the situation that we as their renters were put in. Where we are from bats carry rabies and you aren’t supposed to come into contact with them at all. Ask yourself, would you want to have a bat in the master bedroom after paying almost 5k for a rental and then be told you have to remove it yourself or wait until the morning?
