Jekyll Vacation

We have vacationed at Jekyll Island all of my life and have continued as all of our families have grown. We have stayed at varying houses. This is the second time staying at Cottage by the Sea. The last time was 11 years ago. The house has been updated some, mainly the bathrooms, but It could still use a refresh. It could also use an outside charger for red bugs and electric vehicles. In saying that, it is the best location for our family and the most convenient. Jekyll Realty is always great to deal with.

So spacious and easy access to the beach

This 3 bedroom was perfect for me and my two sons. It could easily fit 3x this many people. The back of the house was extended so that 2 of the bedrooms were larger (1 has 3 twins w/room to walk around). Nice updates. Kitchen was small but functional. Roof deck was a nice addition--only 1 within viewing distance. Couldn't see the beach b/c of the vegetation, but could see a nice chunk of the ocean.Will definitely stay here again.

Family weekend

We enjoyed a quiet weekend with our daughter at the beach in October. Service was excellent and the property was accurately described in the listing. It is a little older but was very comfortable and a good location for us.

Second time at Cottage By The Sea

Enjoyed staying at Cottage By The Sea for our second time. There have been some bathroom remediation since our last visit. The location is perfectly located next to one of the best beach accesses. The layout allows you to watch TV while all the deer come by to feed in the bushes behind the house. We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait for a 3rd visit.

Disappointing

The beds all need replaced, you roll to the center and the pillows were flat. The bathrooms need redone, the lighting is terrible, there are no plugs to plug anything in, there's no place to set anything down, the tile in the master is coming off and the molding is moldy and dirty looking, 4 out of the 9 days there I killed baby roaches that came up in the tub from the drain, there's a big hole in the wall and behind the sink cabinet. The master bedroom needs painted. And practically none of the blinds worked. We were very disappointed with the place and it made it very hard to get ready each day for the reason we were there. I feel I should be reimbursed for part of this because this is not what was shown on the website.

Location is the main reason I am giving a decent review

The location of this rental was perfect for our needs. I understand that it is an older house but sometimes you absolutely need to put some money into renovations. There was dirt in every corner, especially in the back bathroom. The tile work was awful in the bathrooms. The shower dripped constantly and the window rattled all night. The shades for the sliding doors are missing panels and I felt like every time I tried to close them that they were going to break. There are only a few three prong outlets. There was rust on everything metal, I totally understand that being that close to the ocean will cause this. The sliding screen for the back door was broken and not on all the way. There wasn't a was to cover the back window of the living room, leaving you exposed to everyone who walked on the path to the beach. The lighting is very poor. The closet doors are barely hanging on. I understand that this is a rental, but it was sub par. Especially since we had to provided our own linens unless we wanted to pay an astronomical fee. A plus besides location was that the kitchen was fairly nice with new appliances. We were in on business and if we have to come back, I'm not sure that we would rent this property again.

Awesome location

Our 4 adult 2 canine group loved the location , beach access , quiet neighborhood, dog friendly home and beach . However , neither bathroom sinks drained for hours after use , the 2’nd shower was non functioning as it had a garden spigot instead of a shower head, no control of temp and the water flowed down the wall, a couple of tiles fell off the main shower stall. I did contact rental office who suggested a move but as it was a 4 day visit and the effort of packing and moving seemed too burdensome Needs major plumbing work . Feel listing should have been honest and price reduced . Would like to return after repairs

Paradise on Jekyll

We always love our stay on Jekyll. And this rental property is so perfect. Right on the beach, still close to the shops and restaurants. The inside is amazing as well. Can't wait to visit again!

The access to the beach was good - all else about the house was not.

Somehow I missed the fact that I had to pay VRBO 10% after renting the property - just showed up on my credit card. I am of the opinion that this requirement should be more visible on the site of the rental. The rental company that helped us with the property was great, but I never saw any value from VRBO for the fee. I think the homeowner should be paying that fee.

Neat little duplex on the beach

I stayed for the weekend with my wife and 2 friends. We came to Jekyll Island for kayaking, fishing and beaching. The Cottage by the Sea was great. One quirk that we thought was weird is that this rental DID NOT comes with linens for the beds or towels. The listing does mention this. I just didn't catch it. So we drove to Walmart in Brunswick and purchased linens and towels for our stay. We still enjoyed our stay.

Cottage by the sea

Jekyll reality is awesome to deal with. Tha Cottage by the sea had a prime location. Super close to beach. Main living area nice but BR and BR need some up dating.

Great location in need of some TLC

Of course, being so close to the beach makes it a very desirable place to stay. All of the appliances worked as they should. The only thing I would recommend to the owner is to have a plumber come out and do some water conservation strategy, e.g, attend to the numerous leaks in the bathrooms

Weekend at beach

Great location,easy walk to beach and ready access to bike trails,nice views from roof top deck.Deer visit twice daily to beg for food.comfortable bed and chairs.Typical 50 yo house that needs a facelift to be a primary residence ,but perfect for a beach home

Review of stay

My first impression was homey but needed more cleaning. The refrigerator needed to be wiped out and mattress covers needed to be washed. The rugs and end of bed stool in the front bedroom were dirty. Bathrooms needed to be upgraded. Loved the living room and kitchen area. Happy there were no bugs and thank you so much for that. Could not get back sliding door open in back bedroom so we only had one TV.

Peaceful Location

We loved the location. There was plenty of room for a family (7) to spread out and share. It’s a great location with beach access right along the property. The kitchen was well stocked ie., pots, pans etc. The only improvement would be to update the bathrooms and window treatments. We’d rent this home again.

Vacation

Really enjoyed Jekyll Island and the property location was perfect. The unit was very functional and accommodating. However; the unit needs a thorough spring cleaning and several lights were not working. This would not stop me from renting again. Thanks

A good time was had by all

Everyone enjoyed their stay. When they say "beach may not be accessible at high tide," they mean it. The last three steps of the access ladder were underwater during high tide and there was no beach. The water reaches and crashes into the rocks. The backyard was nice and shady and the deer were a pleasant addition to the environment.

Happy memories

Our twin boys got to pretend they had separate rooms, the grandparents stayed with us in the spare bedroom, the property has plenty of space inside & out (although you probably could park more than two vehicles.) Side door to beach's boardwalk is a one minute walk, and we had wild deer come through the back yard morning & evening. (Our boys fed a few of them by hand, so more like tame deer.) The roof top viewing platform is neat, but they didn't really go up there much. The property could be really great, a potential five stars, but it's got some things (blinds, the lock on the side door, some of the light fixtures) that are so worn down it's like they're from an abandoned house. The bathrooms are small and old-fashioned, but we were all fine with them in the end. If the property owner/manager reads this, please give serious consideration to replacing the blinds and few fixtures, as it would elevate the property a lot. As it is, I'd give it a mixed review but tell people that we still made great memories there. I can see us visiting Jekyll again, and even staying here again, but it would be great is the house could get a thorough cleaning (dusting, etc.) and some modest amount of TLC.

Excellent location, house was ok

The house is a great size, located steps from a beach that is accessible at high tide, and close to bike paths. I knew the house was dated based on pictures and other reviews. But I was not expecting the house to be so dirty when we got there (food stains on cabinets, dog hair, dust everywhere, dirty comforters). Jekyll Island Realty was great and responded appropriately, but I should have never found it in that state. We a good cleaning and some updates this place could really be great.
