Paradise!
Hello, our stay at Prodromi began with a more than friendly welcome from Magna, the owner. She cares about the well-being of her tenants. The house is even more impressive than in the photos and when we see it from the top of the road, we say to ourselves that we made the right choice. The exterior layout invites us to enjoy the calm of this tiny hamlet. A mini-paradise... no... PARADISE!

Absolutely lovely, and peaceful.
Four of us have just had a great week at Archon Villa. The property is absolutely spotless, beautiful, and well-equipped. And its in a very peaceful little hamlet in the hills a few miles away from the little beach town of Paleochora. Everything was green and covered with flowers, and there are beautiful walks straight from the house. Evenings were spend on the terrace watching the sun go down and listening to the scops owls, - totally relaxing. And the hospitality from Manya, the wonderful owner, was just amazing. She was so welcoming, and gave us gifts of food and her own olive oil and wine. She really made the holiday, and we were left with such a good impression of Crete. Thanks Manya!

Fantastic stay in Archon Villa
We spent 2 fantastic weeks in Archon Villa, enjoying swimming pool, oliver trees, mountains, view all around and calm. Villa and property was super clean and superbly appointed. Most of all, Manya has welcome us in a great way, helping us with good contacts and tips on the region, and also (most important :)) brought us some nice cretan meals... so delicious !!! Thanks again Manya for your wlecome and see you soon

Superb house in the wilderness, wonderful host
Archon Villa is a really beautiful and luxurious place, very well integrated in the landscape. It stands alone, among just a few houses, churches and lots of goats. As the villa is located in the hills, you feel a difference in temperature compared to the coast.
The villa is perfectly well equiped, beyond your expectations. We enjoyed a maximum of comfort. There is a huge space, inside and outside. The terraces have beautiful views over wide open spaces and the jacuzzi is fun and cooling.
Manya, our host, was just wonderful. She took great care of us. She welcomed us with lots of fresh food and drinks. And each time she came, she brought us delicious, traditional home cooked meals. THANK YOU AGAIN, Manya!
A car is essential as you have to go to Paleochora for shopping, which is about a 20 minutes drive down a scenic route (be careful of the goats!). Paleochora is a small town, touristic but keeping its traditional and authentic atmosphere. There are a lot of nice beaches in the area, and also many walks, with different levels of difficulty.
You can find many taverns in Paleochora, but our prefered tavern was the one located in the old school of the village of Anidri (5 minutes drive before reaching Paleochora).
If you are looking for a quiet, luxurious and secluded holiday, in natural surroundings, with only the sound of the breeze and the bells of the goats, this is the place to go!

Manya ist eine wundervolle Gastgeberin und hat für Ihre Gäste ein kleines Paradies geschaffen!
In der absoluten Ruhe und Stille eines Bergdorfes über Paleochora bieten sich für alle alle Möglichkeiten: Ausruhen und entspannen am Pool oder auf der Terrasse, Baden im tiefblauen Mittelmeer in wunderschönen Buchten, Wandern in wunderschönen Schluchten, schlendern, essen oder einkaufen im belebten und fröhlichen Paleochora…
Das Haus ist super eingerichtet und für alles gut ausgestattet: die Küche ist für alle Kochideen gut ausgerüstet.

Wunderbar im Frühling
Wir waren Ende April bei herrlichem Sonnenwetter in Prodomi und haben unseren Aufenthalt dort sehr genossen. Das Haus ist sehr schön und geräumig und bietet alle Annehmlichkeiten. Manya ist eine fantastische Gastgeberin, die sich hingebungsvoll um uns gekümmert hat. Eindrucksvoll ist wirklich die Stille und Ruhe in dem kleinen Ort und der Sternenhimmel.

The best mistake I have ever made!
I didn't realize there were two villages called 'Maza' in Crete - Villa Archon is near the wrong Maza! But what a wonderful mistake to have made. The villa is beautiful and supremely comfortable. Set amongst the hills, I awoke every morning to the sun creeping down the mountains and the sound of the sheep bells. Every view is stunning - of a landscape that hasn't changed for over 50 years. The stone work and landscaping around the villa provide a never ending series of beautiful places to sit and absorb your surroundings. Honestly, there cannot be another host like Manya. She greeted us at 1.30 am with home cooked meal, greek salad and a glass of wine. She had stocked the fridge with everything we could possibly need for the next few days . 4 days later she returned with more Cretan delicacies for us to enjoy.
It is a long trip from the USA, but we cannot wait to return.
Paleochora, the nearest town is reached via a hair-raising, but absolutely stunning mountain drive. Somehow this little town provides everything a visitor could need and yet avoids any of the jarring elements of the more heavily touristed towns on the north of the island.

Drei Wochen Erholung pur
Wurden von der Gastgeberin sehr herzlich empfangen und sehr umfassend eingewiesen, inclusive Insidertipps und Unternehmungen in der Gegend. Brot, Wasser, Milch, Marmelade, Kaffee, Saft, (Raki) ... und Obst etc. standen schon für uns bereit, so dass wir an dem Abend nicht mehr einkaufen fahren mussten.
Bettwäsche, Handtücher, Badetücher und Geschirrtücher wurden regelmäßig oder auf Wunsch gewechselt. Manja kam alle paar Tage, um den Pool zu reinigen und nach dem Rechten zu sehen und hatte stets landestypische Leckereien im Gepäck gehabt. Dabei war sie stets dezent und unaufdringlich. Das Anwesen ist gepflegt und pflegeleicht, durchdacht und luxeriös. Stromausfall bei Sturm garantierte romantische Stunden bei Kerzenschein. Die Anlage besticht durch großen Freiraum, da es jede Menge Rückzugsmöglichkeiten innen und außen gibt. Ein umwerfender Sternenhimmel in einer klaren Nacht wird uns unvergesslich bleiben (konnten die Milchstraße sehen!, nachdem wir die Garten- und Poollichter ausgeschaltet hatten) .
Zum Einkauf oder Essen gehen muss man ca. 20 Minuten fahren. (Ein Restaurant in der Nähe in Anidri ist sehr zu empfehlen).
Sind durch die Samaria und die Irini Schlucht gewandert. Unbedingt Wanderschuhe zu empfehlen!
Der Strand in Elafonissis war ein Traum. (man sollte wohl nicht gerade in den Sommerferien dort hin fahren, denn dann soll man dort im Wasser nur einen Stehplatz bekommen. Gegen Ende September war es fantastisch).
Wir sind einen Tag nach Chania hoch gefahren und haben uns mit Manya getroffen. Sie hat uns eine Einführung in die Sehenswürdigkeiten gegeben und wir hatten einen tollen Tag dort. In der ersten Querstraße hinter dem Hafenbecken gibt es ein ganz tolles Lederwarengeschäft.
Alles in Allem war es ein gelungener und erholsame Urlaub. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder und wünschen Manya und ihrer Familie und Mutti alles Gute.

Amazing time in South West Crete
A very nice estate – we felt like to be at home from the first to the last minute. 😊 Everything was well designed, we liked the combination of virgin stones and plants all across the villa. At the same time the whole entity was very practical, very clean and we didn’t miss anything.
Manya is a very obliging renter. We got a welcome package when we arrived including very nice dishes – given that we were able to enjoy cretan livestyle from the beginning. She offered us to be available every time via mail or by phone just in case we have questions or have problems.
The area where the villa is located provides everything a heart desires – an extremely beatiful mountain view, nice beaches, shopping facilities and nice taverns around Paleochora – we were the first time at Crete and we immediately started loving it. Manya suggested us some very good recommendations for places to visit and how to get there - each of these recommendations were a complete success – at the end of our stay we met her in Chania for handing over the key which gives us the chance to see some beatiful places in Chania.
We know that some day we will come back and we are looking forward for that. Many thanks to Manya to have a such great holiday and Manya: stay the way you are 😊

Tolle Villa in ruhiger traumhafter Berglage
Die Villa bietet alles, was man sich unter einer sehr komfortablen Unterkunft vorstellen kann. Die Terrassen sind herrlich gelegen und haben schöne Ausblicke. Die Küche ist sehr ordentlich eingerichtet und verfügt über alle nötigen Utensilien. Die Bäder sind Tip-Top. Die Lage der Villa inmitten von Olivenhainen mit herrlicher unverbauter Aussicht nach allen Seiten ist wirklich einmalig und ruhig. Prodromi ist ein kleiner Ort, in dem zur Zeit nur noch 5 Leute leben. Ein erstklassiger Ausgangspunkt für viele Wanderungen in der nahen und näheren Umgebung. Da wäre z. B. das antike Lissos, der Lissos-Canyon, Sougia, die Schlucht Agia Irini, die wunderschönde Wanderung von Azogire nach Anidri, der Anidri-Beach usw. usw. Will man genaue Infos haben, kann man sich immer bei Manya kundig machen, die bei allen Fragen immer zur Verfügung steht und weiter hilft. Das nächste Retaurant ist etwas weiter entfernt und liegt in Anidri (ein echt guter Tipp). Man muss von der Villa mit etwa 12 bis 15 Minuten Autofahrt rechnen (sehr schmale Straße). Wer einen Urlaub plant, der sich hauptsächlich am Meer und am Strand abspielt, ist mit der Villa eher nicht richtig bedient. Die Fahrerei bis zu den Stränden dauert schon ein Weilchen und ist wegen der Mini-Straßen und unzähligen Kurven etwas lästig, wenn man das jeden Tag vor sich hat. Wer sich aber für die einmalig schöne Gegend und die Bergdörfer mit ihren Tavernen und gastfreundlichen Menschen interessiert, gerne wandert, auch mal einen oder zwei Tage nur am Pool relaxen möchte und gelegentlich auch die schönen Strände an der Küste besuchen möchte, der ist hier genau richtig. Eine kleine Einschränkung gibt es, die aber weder die Villa noch ihre supernette Vermieterin betrifft: Im Sommer wandern auf Kreta ist bestimmt eine äußerst schweißtreibende Angelegenheit. Wir waren im Frühjahr (April) dort; alles war grün und überall blühten die Blumen - ideal zum Wandern.

Gorgeous house in beautiful countryside
Archon Villa is just beautiful, with nice interior spaces and a stupendous setting. The garden, the pool, and the dining deck all offer views of the hills planted with olive trees. Especially delightful is the flock of sheep living close by. We were entertained by the sounds of bells and cries of the lambs finding their mothers. The owners were attentive to all our needs, and helpful with information about where to visit and, especially, where to eat. There are several roads to Podromi. The hilly road from Paleochora to the villa is narrow, winding and without guardrails. We got used to it quickly, but it should not be driven at night. This is a quiet, peaceful villa away from the crowds.

Einfach klasse!!! Sehr empfehlenswert!!!
Normalerweise schreibe ich keine Bewertungen, aber weil das Haus und die Gastgeberin Manya so außergewöhnlich sind, möchte ich unsere Erfahrungen unbedingt weitergeben:
Wir haben in den letzten Jahnren schon viele Häuser und Appartments in verschiedenen Ländern angemietet, aber dieses Haus ist besser als alles andere, was wir bisher angetroffen haben.
Es ist sehr geräumig, gemütlich eingerichtet, bestens ausgestattet und top gepflegt. Man hat überhaupt nicht das Gefühl, als würde man in einem Ferienhaus wohnen.
Außerdem gibt es ein großes und gepflegtes Grundstück mit Grill, mehreren Terassen und Gartenmöbeln, so dass man eigentlich den ganzen Urlaub dort verbringen könnte. Das wäre allerdings viel zu Schade, weil von der Unterkunft die schönsten Wanderrouten im Südwesten von Kreta in kürzester Zeit erreicht werden können. Zu empfehlen wären hier z.B. die zahlreichen Schluchten auf Kreta, die einfach Klasse waren.
Selbst im Oktober war es noch angenehm warm. Wir haben viele Wanderungen bei optimalem Wander-Wetter gemacht und konnten nachmittags sogar noch im Mittelmeer baden. Entgegen unserer Befürchtungen hat es nie geregnet. Toll!!!
Außerdem ist Manya die beste Gastgeberin, die man sich vorstellen kann!!!
Bei unserer Ankunft wurden wir mit Kuchen und Leckereien von der Insel empfangen. Neben der ausführlichen Einweisung zum Haus gab es Tips zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Nähe. Sogar der Kühlschrank war schon mit dem Nötigsten befüllt. Und zum Abschid gab es noch kleine Geschenke aus der Region. Wir haben uns nicht wie Mieter gefühlt, sondern wie Freunde. Einfach klasse!

Authentic, peaceful, sun, hikes, and cuisine
Manya's home is truly that -- a home full of all the personal touches that make a vacation there a true step into the local environment. She is such a gracious host, welcomed us personally and shared a number of tips for local sights and hiking in the area. We travel often, and this turned out to be one of our best holidays in years. Relaxing (the quiet of Prodromi), authentic (the olive tree hills, scenic drives, and charming small villages), perfect little hidden beaches (20-30 min away or explore further along the coast), hiking opportunities all around (direct from your doorstep, or phenomenal gorges just around the corner), and wonderful cuisine. Quiet dinners or outdoor breakfasts at the house topped it all off. The house itself is fully equipped, all the comforts; Manya had left breakfast items for us and even drove over from Chania one night with dinner. Top recommendation.

Fantastic property - amazing views, fabulous villa
Wonderful! Our best holiday ever in Europe. Complete tranquility - nothing but fantastic views and the gentle sound of sheep and goat bells ringing within the hills. Amazing villa - spacious, beautifully decorated, excellently equipped. Gorgeous terraces and a welcome outdoor jacuzzi. Manya is a terrific hostess who could not do enough for us. She made us most welcome and left a great hamper and the fridge stocked for us - she even made us a home made meal one night - thank you Manya. We would recommend this villa to anybody who wants a taste of a peaceful oasis with stunning beaches within easy reach.

Traumvilla mit entzückender Vermieterin
Das Angebot hält, was es verspricht. Villa ist in einem geschmackvoll eingerichtetem Top-Zustand. Wir haben nichts vermisst und uns sehr wohl und willkommen gefühlt. Manya ist sehr fürsorglich, herzlich und eine wunderbare Köchin. Wir bedanken uns - und werden wieder kommen!

Superb house in the wilderness, wonderful host
Archon Villa is a really beautiful and luxurious place, very well integrated in the landscape. It stands alone, among just a few houses, churches and lots of goats. As the villa is located in the hills, you feel a difference in temperature compared to the coast.
The villa is perfectly well equiped, beyond your expectations. We enjoyed a maximum of comfort. There is a huge space, inside and outside. The terraces have beautiful views over wide open spaces and the jacuzzi is fun and cooling.
Manya, our host, was just wonderful. She took great care of us. She welcomed us with lots of fresh food and drinks. And each time she came, she brought us delicious, traditional home cooked meals. THANK YOU AGAIN, Manya!
A car is essential as you have to go to Paleochora for shopping, which is about a 20 minutes drive down a scenic route (be careful of the goats!). Paleochora is a small town, touristic but keeping its traditional and authentic atmosphere. There are a lot of nice beaches in the area, and also many walks, with different levels of difficulty.
You can find many taverns in Paleochora, but our prefered tavern was the one located in the old school of the village of Anidri (5 minutes drive before reaching Paleochora).
If you are looking for a quiet, luxurious and secluded holiday, in natural surroundings, with only the sound of the breeze and the bells of the goats, this is the place to go!

A wonderful holiday in a wonderful place!
We spent a fantastic 2 weeks in archon villa this early summer with our 2 girls - age 10 and 6. This was our second visit having come in 2010 AND WE LOVE IT HERE!! The villa is set in the hills and is a beautiful 'Grand Design' which you can see from afar. It is well equipped with everything you might need to enjoy your stay and lots of lovely touches thanks to Mania which make it and you feel special. The girls loved being in the jacuzzi which provided a welcome place to cool down. Although there are no amenities on your doorstep if you don't mind driving the scenic route up and down to Paleohora this does not matter. Mania met us depite not turning up till very late and made us feel welcome from that moment.
Thoroughly enjoyed sampling Mania's home cooking and Jorgo's wine...
A big thankyou! :) We'll be back.......
