Nestled in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 8,661 feet, is the gorgeous town of Lake City, CO. Lake City is home to several species of Wildlife, from moose to deer to mountain goats to chipmunks, and everything in between. As the fall colors continue to show their brilliance the high country of Colorado slowly turns to a golden brown waiting for the first snows of winter. Uncompagre Peak 14,309’ is located just west of Lake City CO, it’s neighbor Wetterhorn Peak 14,015’ make and epic fall trip. It’s possible to drive 4wd to both trailheads and cut across country between the peaks for an epic day in the high country. Be aware that Wetterhorn has severe exposure and it’s required that you have some climbing ability to reach the summit.
