Step back in time as you enter grandmaâs house and feel the nostalgia with modern day updates and conveniences. Some of the furniture is a bit delicate, but that goes with the antiques feel of the entire house. Beds were comfy- not too soft. Back of the house has a secluded feel from the screened in porch. The house is right along the road, but insulated from most of the road noise. Jeff and Mary Ann were prompt with communication and clear with check in/out instructions.
I loved everything about this home! It was spacious enough for the 5 of us. The hosts provided everything and more: towels and linen, soap and shampoo, coffee, small cooking essentials such as nonstick spray, oil, salt & pepper, family games, travel and tourist information. It was all there! And I particularly loved the history of the home that was evident everywhere. What a gem.
Comfortable, clean, and convenient way to spend a week in New River Gorge NP
What a find this place was! Loved the retro decor but with modern appliances and amenities. Very comfy beds and furniture, and lovely screened porch facing the woods. Mt. Hope is not much of a town but itâs located about halfway between the northern and southern ends of the NP which made for shorter drives in either direction to access trails. Both Beckley and Fayetteville are 15 minutes away where there are stores and restaurants for stocking up or eating meals out. This rental was such a great way to unwind and relax after exploring the NP each day. Jeff and Mary Ann are wonderful, responsive hosts!
We stayed for two nights on our trip back from Savannah to break up the drive and check out new river gorge park. House worked well for our group of six. Owners did a beautiful job of updating the amenities while maintaining the old house charm. This property is not for everyone but we really enjoyed checking out some of the old books, framed letters, and other items. The house is stocked with a mix of vintage items, reproductions, and modern functional pieces with vintage styling. Owners certainly spared no expense with the kitchen appliances which are all brand new with the classic styling. House is well stocked with cookware and dishes which are all in great shape as they havenât been abused by renters yet. Owners provided literature for all the local attractions and park which was very helpful in planning our visit. House is conveniently located to the park which was amazing and I wish we had allowed more than one day to explore. My only complaint is that the bedrooms are a little crowded and while the furniture is beautiful I would personally remove some items to allow a bit more space. It should be noted that the kids room with the three beds is accessed through one of the other bedrooms. This was not a problem for us but is worth noting. All in all we were very happy with the accommodations and would book again if we are ever back in the area.
We loved our stay at this well maintained home close to New River Gorge NP. It was like stepping back in time to Grandma's house, but with modern comfort. Looks even better in person than the pictures! You can tell the owners put a lot of time and effort into this place - the details are amazing; right down to the fancy toilet! :) Comfy beds, plenty of towels/linens and an adequately equipped kitchen. Jeff and Mary Ann were prompt in communicating when I had questions. Be sure to check out "The Table" for lunch or an early dinner - it closed at 6pm while we were there! Would stay here again if ever in the area again.
Property was very clean and match the descriptions online. Plenty of room and a very nice home! Many amenities available inside the home. The hosts were very responsive and generous with the early check-in. I would definitely go back and highly recommend anybody looking for a place to stay in West Virginia to explore the Appalachian area and New River gorge, hiking or water activities to check this place out.
We loved staying here while visiting family and attending the Bridge Day. This a beautiful home that is truly a step back in time, but with modern amenities. The hosts were excellent and highly responsive.
Great location to visit either Beckley or New River Gorge Bridge! This 1910 house has been well maintained and has charming furnishings. Beds were comfortable and happy we had WiFi!
No complaints at all. The house is comfortable and has all the amenities anyone would want. The decor is a terrific blend of modern and vintage, very tastefully done. It is too bad that Mt Hope itself has seen better days, but if you are looking for proximity to the national park and other local restaurants and amenities, this location is perfect - you'll be within about 20-30 minutes to most everything. The house is on a fairly busy road, but it was quiet inside, so that was not an issue for us. One suggestion I would have for the owners would be to provide a power strip or two in the bedrooms - between my wife and me, we had four devices to charge (phones, tablets, watches) and there were not enough easily accessible outlets in close proximity to the bed. Overall though, this was a wonderful place to spend a few days!! We would absolutely visit again, with no hesitation!
