Arrived on the date and time agreed upon making the rental. However, the meet and greet contact wasn't there. Phoned him to find out where he was and he told me that he wasn't expecting us. He arrived soon after, let us in and gave us the keys yet it became apparent straight away things were not as anticipated.
The apartment was not clean AT all, nor did it come close to being acceptably clean. I text / emailed the owner and the contact in Nice with our concerns who asked what the problem was. They maintained that it had been cleaned, in which case their idea of cleanliness is miles away from what is acceptable. Instead of giving them the opportunity to come and put right we decided in the interests of being able to get on and enjoy our holiday to clean up ourselves. Particularly given we needed to use the facilites that night. You should never have to do that.
The toilet hadn't been cleaned, the sink and shower was full of grime, none of the floors had been wiped in goodness knows how long let alone swept, the kitchen was dirty, the washing machine had old wet cloths sat in stagnent water causing a horrendous smell, the doors and walls were full of dirt marks such as a dirty footprint on the bathroom door and head marks on the 2nd bedroom walls, the surfaces hadn't been wiped down. Yes the price was good but you shouldn't have to pay more to get basic cleanliness. That should be free.
In terms of where the apartment is and the view then it's great. Lovely view of the seafront, close to the airport and the centre of nice which are easy to get to using the bus services that run behind the apartment.
Such a shame then that something as simple as cleanliness should let it down. I always judge a place on whether i'd return to it or recommend to a friend, and in this case it is most definitely a NO. Never.
