Route 66 - Springfield, IL:  Served as state house from 1840-1876.  Thereafter it served as county courthouse from 1876-1966, which is what travelers on Route 66 would recognize it as.  It was the site of candidacy announcements for Abraham Lincoln (1858) and Barack Obama (2007).
The Old State Capitol State Historic Site, in Springfield, Illinois, is the fifth capitol building built for the U.S. state of Illinois. It was built in the Greek Revival style in 1837–1840, and served as the state house from 1840 to 1876. It is the site of candidacy announcements by Abraham Lincoln in 1858 and Barack Obama in 2007. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961.

In use from 1840-67 the Old Capitol is where Abraham Lincoln served as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives and also where he argued over 200 cases before the Illinois Supreme Court.
