We booked this apartment the night before moving in, as we needed accommodation last minute. The apartment was nice, well decorated. The second day, I stepped on a cockroach in the kitchen, which was disgusting. I took a photo and sent to the host, expecting at least the offer of a discount or some other remedy. While the host was cordial, she did not offer any discount, only saying that we could move out that day and she would not charge us the remaining nights that we wouldn't be staying. After trying to negotiate, she offered us a small discount (about 5% off the entire stay) -- not much considering what we paid for four nights. We were disappointed and frustrated with this situation -- we were moving into an apartment in two days and therefore had tons of luggage with us, and we couldn't find another last minute accommodation in the location we needed. We also informed the host of horrible cigarette smoke and smell throughout the apartment, as all of the surrounding apartment residents smoke constantly both inside and outside the building. We had to keep all the windows shut to avoid the smell, and since the apartment didn't offer central air, it was extremely hot at all times. We communicated these complaints to the host, the cockroach and the smoke. She was not sympathetic, stating that she does not offer reduced price nights. Overall, this negative experience really could have been mitigated by the host offering some kind of genuine refund, since the cleanliness and comfort of the stay was not what we paid for.
