During our family stay booked through Expedia, we experienced a serious safety incident. Late at night, while my husband, our young child, and I were asleep, an unauthorized adult entered our hotel room. Police were contacted, and the situation was very frightening and distressing. Hotel staff initially suggested the door had not been locked, which we strongly disagree with, as the door was locked before sleep. Our family was staying in two rooms in different areas of the resort. The incident occurred in an older section, while another family member stayed in a newer area with a different door lock system and had no issues. The following morning, hotel management reviewed surveillance footage and informed us that the issue was related to the door lock, not guest error. We were advised to contact Expedia regarding a refund and were offered alternative accommodations if we chose to stay. However, due to the emotional impact and safety concerns, we no longer felt comfortable remaining and decided to leave early. Before departure, we requested assistance with transportation to the airport but did not receive support. After we left, we were informed that the hotel provided a different explanation and declined responsibility. The inconsistent communication and lack of accountability afterward were disappointing, given the seriousness of the incident. This experience caused distress, and we believe safety concerns of this nature should be handled with greater transparency and care.
