My stay at the Radisson Blu Maldives was way below expectations, with some strong points, but ultimately disappointing enough that I would choose a different resort if I return to the Maldives.
The experience started poorly. The seaplane transfer was delayed by two hours due to a miscalculation of the aircraft’s weight, followed by a 4 hour delay in the arrival of my luggage.
Despite this, the check-in process was still slow, showing little urgency given the situation.
When my luggage finally arrived and I went to take a shower, the hot water was not working and took around two more hours to be fixed. Between the seaplane delay, luggage delay, and basic room facilities not functioning, we lost roughly eight hours of our stay on the first day. Even so, a reasonable 2-hour late checkout request was denied, which felt unnecessarily inflexible under the circumstances.
Food is extremely expensive, as expected in the Maldives and personally I’m ok with high prices when the quality justifies it, but the quality does not come close to justifying the prices. At the Kabuki restaurant, USD 60 for two small tacos or USD 50 for a 4-piece sushi roll delivered food with poor flavor, incorrect temperature, and bad texture. On in-room dining A USD 60 pasta served overcooked or a USD 60 cold pizza further highlighted the disconnect between price and execution.
