Santuário de Santa Luzia

The Church of Santa Lucia, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, is located on the hill of the same name in the city of Viana do Castelo. The church was built on the site of a small medieval chapel, known as a pilgrimage site for people with eye diseases. The construction of the temple lasted from 1904 to 1959. The eclectic-style Miguel Ventura Terra project combines neo-romanticism, neo-Gothic and Byzantine architecture. It is generally accepted that the architect was inspired by the forms of the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris. To the foot of the church at a height of 195 meters above sea level there is a line of a funicular built in 1923. Tourists can take the elevator to the observation deck under the very dome of the church. A panoramic view of the Lima River valley, mountains and the Atlantic Ocean opens from the platform. In 1927, National Geographic magazine named this species the third most beautiful in the world.

Sauberes Apartment am Rand des historischen Zentrums. Nebenan und gegenüber ein Supermarkt sowie diverse (auf den ersten Blick nicht sofort erkennbar) sehr gute Frühstücksmöglichkeiten. Fussläufig eigentlich alles erreichbar. Gute Kommunikation. Einziges Manko war, dass wir im Schlafzimmer nur bedingt Fenster öffnen konnten. Das Fenster lag zu einem Schacht und hatte einen Balkon. Man schaut direkt auf eine Wand und dazu relativ laut und warm. Auch waren wir wegen der Treppen froh, im 1. OG untergebracht zu sein.
