A simple booking turns into a nightmare of surprise charges and no hospitality.After our reservation became non-refundable, the host demanded additional background check fees for each guest. VRBO initially said these werenât allowed, but later reversed course. We were forced to pay or lose everything.New VRBO users can expect an extra âno-reviewâ fee. A ridiculous fee for being new to the platform and another way for this host to nickel-and-dime guests.Travel delays? Expect fees for early check-in, late check-in, and even threats of more fees if we didnât leave exactly at 10 a.m.I understand hotels charge for extended stays, but this host uses every opportunity to squeeze more money with no added service.Florida residents beware! After our reservation became non-refundable, we were told Fl residents needed special approval. This came with more hassle and potential fees.Our damage deposit was held for nearly two weeks despite no damage. VRBO confirmed the host couldâve released it earlier but chose not to, adding to the growing list of reasons we felt mistreated.Worst of all, the unit is a sub-leased apartment, not a true vacation rental. Host enforces a "zero communication policy with neighbors" making the stay feel shady and uncomfortable.Our stay was frustrating, stressful, and filled with unexpected charges and unnecessary tension. Weâve never felt so relieved to leave a place. Skip this listing. Itâs not worth the secrecy, stress, or inflated cost.
