3BR Peaceful Country House Retreat Near Venado Caves, Río Celeste & La Fortuna

  • Welcome to Casa Venado, a peaceful 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom countryside home where you can experience a quieter, more authentic side of Costa Rica. It's truly special here.

Wake up to the sounds of birds and the Costa Rican countryside. Enjoy your morning coffee surrounded by green hills and tropical nature. Drive down quiet country roads past family farms, horses and cattle. Spend the day exploring caves, swimming in rivers and waterfalls, horseback riding through the countryside, soaking in natural hot springs, or visiting the incredible turquoise waters of Río Celeste.

Then come home, slow down, and enjoy the peace and privacy of Casa Venado.

We fell in love with this area because it feels different from Costa Rica's busier tourist destinations. Venado is a small rural farming community where life moves at a slower pace, people are friendly, and you're surrounded by farms, forests, rivers and wildlife. It's a wonderful place to reconnect with nature, family and friends while still being close enough to enjoy some of northern Costa Rica's best experiences.

    -The Home-

Casa Venado is a spacious private home with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, making it a great choice for couples, families and small groups.

You'll have the entire property to yourself, with plenty of room to relax both indoors and outside.

    The home includes:

    - 3 comfortable bedrooms
    - 2 bathrooms
    - Fully equipped kitchen
    - Air conditioning
    - High-speed Starlink Wi-Fi
    - BBQ
    - Outdoor terrace
    - Private parking directly in front of the home
    - Clean, natural underground spring water that's safe to drink

The kitchen has what you need to prepare meals at home, including cookware, dishes, cooking oil, salt, pepper and a selection of spices. You'll have the essentials for cooking and enjoying meals together.

    -An Incredible Location for Exploring-

One of the best things about Casa Venado is its location.

You're tucked away in the countryside, but some incredible Costa Rican experiences are surprisingly close.

The Venado Caves are only about 10 minutes away. Explore ancient limestone caves, underground rivers and incredible rock formations on a guided adventure where you'll climb, walk and wade your way underground.

Ganadera La Nacha is a local horse, cow and pig farm only 3 minutes from the house and offers horseback riding experiences through the beautiful countryside. Depending on what interests you, rides can include waterfalls, natural springs, working farms, cattle and beautiful rural scenery. You can have a picnic by the river and hike the stunning property that has it's own waterfalls. This is the real deal.

For something especially memorable, we can also help arrange a traditional Costa Rican cooking experience with a lovely local family. There be a lot of engagement and laughing and it will definitely be a highlight.

There are several nearby places to swim in rivers and waterfalls, including local spots that most tourists visiting the La Fortuna area would never know existed. We have an exclusive written guide with all the local ins and outs.

And about an hour away is Rio Celeste, one of Costa Rica's most famous natural attractions. A breathtaking turquoise-blue water and waterfall hike in Tenorio Volcano National Park where you can also combine your visit with a tubing adventure.

    La Fortuna & Hot Springs

Casa Venado also makes a great base for exploring the greater La Fortuna and Arenal area without staying in the middle of the busy tourist centre.

Spend a day soaking in the hot springs at The Springs Resort (about 25 minutes away). Families may also enjoy Baldi Hot Springs, while couples looking for something quieter may prefer the more intimate atmosphere at Ecotermales.

Other popular day trips include Mistico Hanging Bridges, Arenal Waterfall, ziplining and 4x4 adventures.

Then, instead of returning to a busy resort area at the end of the day, you can head back into the peaceful countryside and relax at Casa Venado.

-Experience the Local Side of Costa Rica-

Some of our favourite experiences here aren't necessarily the famous attractions (though we love those too). They're the simple things.

Stopping at a roadside stand for fresh fruit or a cold coconut. Eating at a small local soda. Swimming in the river. Watching horses and cattle in the fields. Driving a beautiful back road just to see where it goes. Meeting local families and experiencing the warmth of the people who live here.

Venado has several small local restaurants and shops, and you'll find larger grocery stores and services in nearby communities. This isn't a polished resort neighbourhood—and that's exactly why we love it.

Early mornings are particularly beautiful. Grab a coffee, step outside and simply listen. The birds you'll see and hear are spectacular.

When we first discovered this property, we felt such a deep connection. It was the feeling—the slower pace of life, the warmth of the people, the connection to the land and animals, and the peacefulness of the countryside.

We hope staying here gives you a chance to experience that too.
