The Upper Room... Watch mountain sunsets from your bed! Accessibility festures.

The Upper Room, located in Butler, Tennessee 37640 began accepting guests in October 2026.
and is laid out like a large hotel suite… One very large room which serves as sleeping, living, kitchen and dining space, plus a large and luxurious bathroom. There is NO dedicated work space. You don’t come here to work! Everything is decorated in “cabin style” with knotty pine walls and iron fittings. Your French doors open to a private rear patio with a fire pit where even firewood is supplied! You can watch the sunsets over the Blue Ridge Mountains right from your bed via the panoramic windows along the southwest facing building front.

The owners live on property, in a separate house just across a private road. Your level of contact with us is up to your preference. If you like, we will prepare your brunch and carry it over LATE each morning. (Nobody gets up early around here! ) Of course, you can always use the kitchen, outfitted with Keurig, microwave, stove, toaster and fridge as well as pots & pans, utensils and dishware. Basic condiments are provided and shopping is just two miles away, along with local farmstands for fresh baked goods and local eggs and honey. We'll be happy to set you up with nightly firepits, help with local attractions and dining and whatever you may need.

SHOWER: The shower is designed to provide a luxurious, open feel with no door or curtain and a natural “stony beach” floor. It features a rainfall shower head at one end and a handheld at the other, mounted so as to be reachable even while seated on the optional shower bench.

ACCESSIBILITY: In designing The Upper Room we were very conscious of the needs of those with mobility and access challenges. There is an accessible entrance with level approach right from parking. It has double door entry. Kitchen sink has open knee space. Murphy Bed can be closed up during the day, leaving the floor plan totally wide open. The bathroom door slides open to an unobstructed path no narrower than 38 inches past vanity & commode and up to the opening of the shower, which accommodates the wheelchair user with controls located at shoulder height for a seated person. A transfer bench and commode rails are available with prior notice. Even the rear flagstone patio and firepit are easily accessible to a wheelchair user, though of course they are natural surfaces so please be cautious.
