The first problem arose when, days before our trip, the host informed us they had double booked the house & my reservation was invalid. I was told that they had a house next door available & we could stay there. I accepted that offer. I stayed in communication with the host leading up to the visit - continuing, even, on the day of arrival - because I was requesting an early check in if it was possible. When my group of 4 arrived at the house, we found filthy conditions. Nothing had been cleaned inside or out; dirty floors, scattered food, unwashed sheets & towels, clothing, fecal matter in the bathroom. I also noted that the condition of the house was not as expected. It was in a state of renovation outside…piles of concrete, unfinished parking places, boards with nails, water hoses scattered, & general debris. I contacted the host who had no explanation for why we were told the house had been cleaned but, yet, wasn’t. Again, I was told cleaners were on the way. We waited 3 1/2 hours before the cleaners came. And they informed me that the house was never on their schedule & this was an “emergency” clean.In the hours that we waited, we began looking for another home. And also in this time, the host stopped answering on the VRBO messages & our communications shifted to telephone calls. Strangely, we were connected with a “representative” & then a “supervisor”. We found another VRBO & requested to cancel/get a refund. Received it after 11 days of more emails & phone calls.
