I would like to start with a positive. The time spent outdoors by the fire pit, beach area, and dock/boat house totally made the trip. One of the best outdoor experiences I have had at Lake Anna. I wish I could say the same for the rest of our stay, but I cannot. While the cleaning service was supposed to have just left the property, there were a lot of mouse droppings on and between the master bedroom comforter and mattress. Obviously not cleaned (a woman’s headband was also on the mattress) and very disgusting. We had to put our sheets on top of the comforter and sleep with towels as blankets as the stack of blankets in the closet at that point did not seems so enticing. There were also mouse droppings throughout the house, in the corners of the bedrooms, and in the basement. My sons were downstairs when a mouse came out from under the couch. On a different night, my wife and I were at the kitchen table eating dinner when we saw a mouse come from beside the oven and go into the pan of our remaining dinner food sitting on the range top. There are broken fixtures and appliances. Even though all basically worked enough, I expected for such an expensive property to have a good clean experience, not broken chandeliers, an oven leaning forward because it no longer has front legs, a bent main entrance door that does not close well nor keep the bugs out (nor provide much of a sense of security), and a refrigerator with a messed up compressor that was very loud and didn't keep our food as cold as it should. There is also a stockpile of old appliances, tools, gas tanks, and trash under the decks of the house on both sides, adding to the junkiness and low-quality feeling. Needless to say, we were pretty grossed out by the house. Circling back to the positive, I will say that the beach area is somewhat unique to this property and was a huge part of why my kids loved Lake Anna so much. They also really loved the floating platform the owner had anchored in the water to the side of the dock. We did appreciate, and greatly enjoy, the provisions for water activities, and the firepit by the beach area.
