Disappointing

The room was a garret up in the roof of the building. The room was small, the towels off white and frayed. No hair dryer. I would be embarrassed to let a room like this. There is clearly no pride in the business. Breakfast was good. Apart from the breakfast waitress the staff were unfriendly.

Welcoming

We stayed at The Shrubbery as a stop-over driving home in the recent heatwave and found it very pleasant despite how hot it was! The staff were very welcoming and helpful and the breakfast was delicious. We may well be using it again in the future.

Very nice hotel with excellent staff

Really 9nly ch3ck3d in late but as i callwd ahead to say so the staff were so nice, friendly and polite. The room was vwry bice without being extravagant. Breakfast was great too.

The property is not at Cannards Grave it is in the town centre, the hotel is a old building with quaint features,we had room 103 which was nice but there was some problems in the bathroom.

This was a one night business trip despite putting a note on booking about a good broadband signal in my room this note was either ignored if not tested. Being told “ there is usually a good signal” was not good enough. However the management dud their best to resolve the issue. I was offered the public dinning room. The wooden slatted blind in the room didn’t close. There was a door knob missing from the wardrobe and the sink had a large crack in it. The shower wasn’t great

The owner was very happy and welcoming we had a drink and food on our visit and breakfast both days and the food was lovely. We came away feeling relaxed and happy will definitely be going again 😊😊

Just what we needed

Traditional hotel, some might call it old-fashioned, BUT it has friendly, welcoming and helpful staff, perfectly comfy rooms and a lovely breakfast. What more could you want for a stopover.

Didn't like the separate bathroom and toilet however it was private, I thought I was getting a double bed but it was a single and not the most comfortable, I could hear everyone in the place talking so I wondered if they could hear me as well, so very thin walls on this one and you can hear people's conversations word for word late at night, I don't think I will be in a rush to come back unless the price is much lower.

Great value - even better breakfast

Fantastic host - nothing too much trouble, room had everything I needed for a 1 night stay. The highlight of the stay was the breakfast - absolutely superb!

The breakfast was excellent also the service . Having booked a two night stay , after the first night we decided to leave and find another hotel in the area . The sheets didn’t fit the mattress , the shower was old and dirty . Decor was very outdated and in desperate need of decoration . The windows were single planed & old . My grand daughter was unable to sleep because of the noise below our room . Not a pleasant experience at all .

Slightly Old fashioned hotel but everything worked and it was very clean and tidy. Food both in the evening and breakfast was very good. Parking was available at the property.

The Shrubbery Hotel is certainly not a 3*** hotel. It may have been fourty years ago, but its heating system is at the brink of failure. Albeit we got a room swap due a very cold room, the property is generally dated and lacks investment. The single glazed windows and only slightly warm radiators don't contribute towards a cozy room away from home experience. The bathroom ceiling was partially collapsed. The included breakfast was only offered at from 8am, which is far too late for active outdoors loving people. To make the most out of the sparse daylight in winter, one has to be able to get this before sunrise. We hoped to be offered at least some toast and spread, but were left without any breakfast or offer to make up for this with a partial refund. Overall, a 2** chain property offers better value than the Shrubbery Hotel.

Comfy bed, good size room, unfortunately no heating as there was a problem with it But had fan heater to warm room up but bar area was to cold so went else where for a drink. Breakfast had cereals, toast, juices, fruit. Yoghurts, coffee full English was really good !

Good hotel

Just stayed one night after visiting Longleat. Sadly hotel heating was broken so was a bit cold, but hotel supplied fan heaters to heat rooms. Hotel owners were very nice and friendly and the breakfast was amazing.

A beautiful period building well kept and thoughtfully transitioned into a hotel. Clean, airy rooms with a wonderful English breakfast served with lots of hot coffee by the owner Lorraine herself. And Shepton Mallet is a lovely town, with easy access to the Mendip walking paths.
