An experience of a lifetime!
We adored our stay with Christine and Jose. In particular we loved the stunning views from the property, the beautiful outdoor spaces (bar, fire table, gorgeous pool that is heated so our kids could play in it for hours) and the location (remote in the hills with a farm, fruit trees, horses etc.). Being there felt like a truly unique experience and it felt like we got to experience real puerto rico life for a couple of days. We also went on a tour with Jose and Christine and I couldn't recommend it enough. It was the highlight of our boys' trip. We did everything from exploring a cave to cliff jumping, to swimming to a waterfall. All of it was done in a very local and non-touristic way. It was incredible. They even took us to a very cool local bar where we got to meet the owners. All of it was so well put together. It felt like we were just out for the day with two friends for an amazing adventure. My only constructive criticism would be that the unit likely needs to be updated soon. The space is in need of a deep clean and some updating, and the dishes and pots need to be replaced. However, this was a very small thing when taking into account how extraordinary everything else was. Jose and Christine are a pleasure to deal with and we loved spending our time with them. They were amazing with our kids and really made the experience feel special for them.

Best trip ever!
We had the most amazing stay at Christine’s and Jose’s! The home has everything you need and the best part is the view, absolutely amazing!! The host Jose and Christine offered a VIP tour where we saw caves, rivers, cliffs and cannons! It was spectacular, one of the best day of our lives we will never forget it! A Magical Mountain Retreat
Renting this house provided so much more than I could have asked for. This was our first time in PR and we wanted to experience all the Island had to offer. we split our week up in between a few days in the Mountains and on the beach. We arrived on our flight from San Juan and made about a 1.5 hour drive to Utuado. To be upfront the roads are extremely difficult to navigate. You will definitely want to arrive during the day. The roads are only wide enough for one car even though they go both ways. Many of the roads are super steep and have blind corners. But they are manageable especially with the host help. Jose and Christine are by far the best hosts we have ever had. After spending one day with them they felt like family. Not only are they the host of your stay they can be your tour guides. We paid a very reasonable fee (was too low in my opinion) for our group of 6 to do an all day 3 stop tour. As advertised we hiked down a mountain to a beautiful cave and river. Next he took us to a water fall. Finally we went to another river area with rapids to play in. That’s what they advertised. What we got was so much more. To start the day they took us to a local bakery and breakfast shop and between each stop we went to different local establishments for drinks and food. They would always translate when needed and introduce us to all the locals. We met so many amazing people. Learned the history.Life is very different in the mountains. People move slower but in a good way.

Paradise
FANTASTIC. The house is in such a beautiful area and the views are so wonderful. Honestly the views from this home is not much different than the El Yungue rainforest views. Spectacular. The host are amazing and friendly as was everyone in the area.The home is clean with horses and chickens out the front door and mountain views from the back. Jose and Christine gave us many options for the day with directions and waved us down ( they were at the bar down the road) on the way home when they saw us pass and introduced us to everyone there as well as treated us to a drink. That evening I was able to take a ride with Christine. She knew I loved riding and took me on an unforgettable evening ride with Jose riding behind to light the way. I would return in a heartbeat!!

Mountain Retreat with Spectacular View
We stayed two nights at La Posada Mountain Retreat, starting 1/13/2024. Getting there was a bit of a road adventure requiring careful attention to the directions. But once arriving there, the mountaintop view alone made it worth trip. Spectacular! Our unit accommodations were clean and spacious with three bedrooms and two baths, kitchen, dining area, living room and sitting room. There was a balcony area which was the best way to enjoy the vista, particularly at dawn and dusk where could see the rolling clouds below us blanketing the valley. We enjoyed their pool which was heated, comfortable and provided a relaxing way to end the day with cold beer and to soak in the view. The hosts were gracious and accommodating. The first morning we arose to see the sunrise and Jose was up too in his outdoor kitchen. He offered to make us some proper Puerto Rican coffee which was delicious! They are continuing to make improvements and upgrades to the retreat, and have other plans to expand their amenities. One area that could be improved is the consistency of available hot water for bathing and cleaning dishes. It seems that when guests in other units and the hosts have been using the hot water, the solar heating system may be overtaxed. Otherwise, we throughly enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful Stay!
The view and property are breathtaking! The home is in the jungle and mountains. Christina and Jose live on the top floor, we were in the middle and there is a smaller rental on the bottom (which was vacant). It was nice that they were close by in case we needed anything. We felt extremely safe at the house and surrounding areas. The photos show the home perfectly, however, the views are so much better in person! There are many outdoor areas~a table and hammock in the shade, sitting area near an outside bar and the infinity pool. Jose and Christina were extremely helpful in giving advice on the area and where to go. We lucked out and they were able to give us tours of top places to visit near Utuado including the town of Utuado, Charco Los Morones, Mango Waterfall and the Tanama River Caves (bring watershoes if you go), and suggestions for beaches not in the area. They have beach chairs and pool noodles for use. Jose and Christina set up a horseback riding tour for us to enjoy as well. The sounds of the coqui and other night birds were relaxing. We slept with the windows open each night. If you are a light sleeper and need complete quiet bring a sound machine or ear plugs as this is like most Caribbean islands where roosters crow and animals make night noises. We loved it! The family gave this vacation a 10 out of 10, thanks to spot (and not being a typical resort vacation) and more importantly to our gracious hosts and their suggestions and tours.

AMAZING! Beautiful views!
Jose and Christina were absolutely great. Very welcoming and accommodating. Even though our youngest was too young to horse back ride they offered alternative things to do and even offered to babysit so the rest of the family could go. So thoughtful! We ended up enjoying the property views and the amazing pool for the time there. Jose and Christina had great restaurant recommendations and even recommended a waterfall and swimming hole on our way to the property from Cabo rojo that we loved. We hope to return when our youngest is old enough to horse back ride and enjoy the other activities. Highly recommend!

We were looking for a home where our kids could experience more of the Puerto Rican culture and less of a resort. We had a wonderful time at La Posada. The views are breathtaking. Our hosts graciously gave us recommendations that were great and led us on a cave tour that was fabulous. You will awaken to the sound of roosters, chickens and horses. It is indoor-outdoor living. It takes about 20 minutes to get up and down the mountain but after a week we felt like pros! San Juan is about 90 minutes away but there is a lot to see closer and it is a beautiful part of the island!

What an amazing place!!!
We were looking for a tranquil place with adventures and we have no regrets choosing this place. It has one of the most beautiful views of Utuado, the sunrise from there is unique!! The pool can be used even at night because it is heated. IWe went to Los Arcos river and the Morones river …wonderful! Jose gave us recommendations for restaurants and places to visit, all of them excellent. Christine and Jose make you feel like family. 100% recommended!

We stayed in Christine and Jose’s home in late July. There were five adults and plenty of room! It was everything I was hoping for! They are the nicest, most attentive couple and made us feel like family. They gave us wonderful ideas and many invites to travel to new places and experience new things. Their home is fantastic and the view is beautiful! Waking up every morning watching the sunrise and the mountains completed our trip! Although they stay in a separate apartment in the home you would never know they were there. We had complete privacy yet they were available if we needed them. A very safe friendly neighborhood. The home is beautiful and nicely nestled in the mountainside with gorgeous views. Sunrise with a cup of coffee and Yoga on the back porch was our zen. Horseback riding was an adventure we will never forget with a stop at a local bar to meet new friends. Daily greets from the dogs and a mama kitty made us feel at home and welcome. Jose and Christine took the extra time to help us with great suggestions and advise on great places to explore, eat and showed their little town. They treated us like family and even helped us when we had challenges with our car. The home was stocked with everything we needed for cooking, an outside kitchen bar area, charcoal grille and hot tub. The infinity pool overlooks the mountain side and lit up at night. There’s so much to do we can’t wait to go back. Thank you again with gratitude from Cindy, Charlee and Dana. 💕

Majestic Views and Great Hosts
I recently stayed at Jose and Christina's property with my wife and our daughter and the pictures don't do justice to this beautiful mountaintop home. We each had our favorites which I will quickly rundown. For me it was the spectacular views especially the sunrises and the peacefulness. For my wife, Michele, it was was trotting through the mountains on Sanje, a beautiful white horse. Cynthia, our daughter loved hanging in the hot tub or relaxing in the hammock. I have stayed at many excellent properties around the world, but I can say unequivocally that this was my favourite. As another reviewer/guest said, if you are thinking about booking this property, do it! The house and surrounding area are gorgeous but what makes this property great is Christina and Jose. They are super hosts, making us feel welcomed the moment we arrived. We definitely plan on staying with them again.

An experience like no other
What is the *real* Puerto Rico? Is it the beach hotel in Condado or Isla Verde? Not for me. The real Puerto Rico is the Puerto Rican countryside. The warmth and hospitality of its people. The coquis and the birds singing. The cool mountain breezes. And the stunning views looking across a fog-shrouded high valley towards the sunrise beyond the mountains of the Cordillera Central to the east. This property allows for an unforgettable and unique experience few can match. It’s remote. I mean, *really* remote. It’s a 25 minute drive beyond Utuado up twisty and narrow roads. Almost all cellphone carriers provide good service on the island. But there are exceptions, and you won’t find broadband access at this rental. Generally, if you want to stay on the grid, your cell signal is it. But that didn’t deter from our fun. We enjoyed the hot tub, barbecuing on the deck above the clouds, playing dominoes in the evening while playing our favorite tunes on the Bluetooth outdoor speakers, and, most of all, the attention from the property owners José and Christine who are always just a text, call, or shout away! And we had easy access to eco tourism adventures, including a great horseback riding half-day organized by the property owners. The pristine beaches are less than an hour drive away. I do recommend this property. It’s not a resort. But, resorts are not my thing. If you’re like me, you’re going to love this!

Breathtaking Views and peaceful location
We stayed at Christine and Jose’s beautiful place for 6 nights. The location is ideal for family stay - my husband and I brought our 4-year-old twin girls and we had an amazing time. From having morning coffee on the patio overlooking the sunrise over the mountains to relaxing after the day in the hot tub and to falling asleep to coquis in the hammock on the deck - this place has everything needed to unwind and recharge. Lushness and greenery of the landscape would leave no one unimpressed. Jose and Christine were kind to also let our girls ride one of their beautiful horses, Grace, which absolutely made the trip unforgettable for them. Thank you so much for your hospitality! The property profile cannot capture the beauty of this place - it is worthy as its own destination.
We stumbled upon the opportunity to stay here. We planned a tour with Tanama River Adventures. Had we known how absolutely spectacular this home is, with its abundant beauty and vicinity to explore, we would have planned to stay longer. We will on our next trip. There is SO much more to see, like Canon Blanco, or the gardens and grounds of this home. Let's review the basics. Cleanliness. This home is immaculately clean. Eat off the floor clean! Since many of the surfaces and linens are crisp bright white, you'd notice even a crumb. The owners' efforts, attention to detail, and genuine care for the property shows throughout the tended and curated grounds, and in the unique original art - from the vibrant amethyst crystals perched at the entrance, to prints and sculpture throughout the home. Next, Safety. We locked the doors the first night, out of habit, then no more. Very safe. This home is near Utuado, closer yet to a small village, but tucked upon its own mountain perch. Jose and Christine are nearby, and they are gracious, enthusiastic, attentive hosts. I can't emphasize enough what a great benefit it is to have welcoming hosts like them. As other guests comment, it really is like staying with family (if you have a great family!) Next, function. The home is well equipped, all you need. It is in a remote area, off the grid. That can present challenges, yet we did not experience anything that detracted from our overall experience. Jose and Christine are helpful if you have any questions. If you are searching VRBO, if this place is available, BOOK IT!!! It truly is deserving as a stand alone experience. My sister photographed the stars. The views, whether by day or night, are breathtaking. The village nestled below looks like its own Milky Way at night. I recorded the birds and frogs singing their night songs. I will never forget my two nights there, falling asleep, all the windows open. Yes, it is that safe, and the fragrant mountain breeze blowing through the entire house, the birds and frogs serenading, the sun peaking over the mountains, as dawn breaks above the valley mist, such a rare experience. If you are planning a day with Tanama River Adventures, this home is even closer than the city of Utuado is to the tour. While this home is remote and secluded, it is just a few minutes down the mountain, to a village even closer than Utuado. Running out of space! All I can say is BOOK THIS HOME if it's available!!! Very Special Place!

We enjoyed our stay at the Roncador Mountain Retreat in Utuado, Puerto Rico. It was captivating, relaxing, and great. I highly recommend the accommodations!!! The place and the scenery is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. Most importantly, the hosts were gracious pleasant. They made us feel like family. We felt we belonged there. They went out of the way to find us when we were lost in the mountains. We definitely look forward to visiting "El Roncador Mountain Retreat" again. On a scale from 1 to 10, I rate the place a "100."

This beautiful house is still reasonably close the San Juan airport (80-90) minutes)and offers stunning views and an unforgettable experience. The night skies light up with stars and fireflies. Bananas, Orangelos, and coffee grow on the farm and nearby. Christine and Jose are wonderful hosts and will help you find the nearby attractions such as hiking, Tanama river adventures, and the Taino archaeological site. There’s a little bar nearby (cash only) with a pool table and locals made us feel right at home! I highly recommend this stay for a unique experience in Puerto Rico and a central location to access the many wonders of this island.

Escape off the beaten path to a mountain paradise!
Had the honor of being the first guests at Jose and Christina’s lovely place! They weren’t kidding when they talked about the views-stunning!! We needed a place for a last minute excursion to Utuado and they were both so gracious and flexible which made our trip so much better! The house is very convenient to all major attractions here (waterfalls, Tanama river, etc). We especially enjoyed walking around the farm (still in development) and Jose was kind enough to have a bowl of freshly picked fruits out for us which was SO appreciated! My girls loved playing with and combing their horse , too. We wish them much luck on their new venture and can’t wait to see them develop it further! Note: water pressure was naturally low here on the mountains in the shower so expect that.
