  • The Georgian Townhouse is situated in one of the best areas in York. Full of independent places to eat, drink and shop. The house itself has recently been fully renovated to a very high standard. A great deal of thought has been given to the comfort of the guests. There is a bathroom for every bedroom ensuring that whether it's for a wedding, Christmas/New Year celebrations, a weekend at the races or a multi-generational family holiday, everyone has their own luxury space.

    All the bedroom finishes and wonderfully comfortable beds ensure the very best night's sleep for everyone. Three of the five double bedrooms can also be set as a double or a twin, ensuring that everyone is catered for.

    When you enter the house, you walk straight into the stunning kitchen diner. A space where everyone can get together over a sumptuous evening meal, or a glass of champagne before heading out. The kitchen is fully fitted with a double fridge, range cooker, large kitchen island with butler's sink and bar stools, where you can sit and chat whilst rustling up something delicious! The dining area has a large antique table where you can gather and catch up on the day's adventures. Leading off there is a butler's pantry with further kitchen units and under counter freezers. Through from here you have the sitting room with a flat screen TV, a lovely space to sit and relax and watch a movie. It's a bright airy room with bi-fold doors leading out to a small courtyard area. Off from this room you have a lovely shower room with a spacious walk-in shower, toilet and sink. Also leading off from the living room is a laundry room with fitted washing machine and dryer. Throughout the ground floor and including all bathrooms throughout the house, there is underfloor heating, ensuring that even in the colder months the guests are all kept warm and cosy during their stay. The small details have all been looked after - even down to a sewing kit, shoe cleaning kit, slow cooker and laundry rack.

    Additionally on the ground floor there is a lovely double bedroom, this room can be set up as either a double or a twin. This bedroom is served by the downstairs shower room.

    Proceeding up to the first floor there are two double bedrooms, both bright and airy with king sized beds. There are two bathrooms to serve the bedrooms on this floor, both with free standing double ended baths and handheld shower heads. One also has a free-standing shower. Past this bathroom are the stairs that will lead you up to the second floor. Here you will find two generous sized bedrooms, both have super king beds that can also be set up as either a super king or a twin. One of the bedrooms is served by a shower room boasting a large walk-in shower. The other bedroom has its own ensuite shower room. One of these bedrooms also has the flexibility of offering a sumptuous single sofa bed.

    The Georgian Townhouse is an absolute gem. When you walk into the property you immediately know that you have booked somewhere special.

Stylish 5 bedroom house in a central location.

Beautifully restored Georgian townhouse, ideal for our family getogether. All the bathrooms, bedrooms and living areas were immaculate. We could walk into the Shambles in 6 mins.

Weekend away

Stayed here with some friends and we loved it! The pictures do it justice, the location is brilliant, the welcome pack was a nice touch and the host called me the day before to check we were happy with everything. Only giving it 4 stars because it was pretty cold even with the heating on in all of the rooms, but I guess that comes with an old house in winter.

Gorgeous Georgian Townhouse

The Georgian Townhouse is the most beautiful and perfectly located place to stay in York. Literally a few minutes from everything, from restaurants to the famous Shambles we loved every minute. Couple of issues that the central heating wasn’t working snd it was terribly cold in the bedrooms and bathrooms. However we managed to solve that, otherwise it was the best faultless weeekend. The weather was glorious and the sun shone every day.

A perfect weekend stay

This building is incredible. I rented it out for a girls weekend and everyone was in awe of how utterly stunning the building and its interior was. It is beautifully decorated and so welcoming! The beds are all comfortable, the quality level is so high, it felt like a beautiful home with 5 star hotel level service from start to finish. The staff I spoke too when booking were so accomodating and friendly, there was even a welcome hamper when we got there!

Loved this house!

We so enjoyed our time at 70 Walmgate! We are a group of friends who met volunteering at a living history museum so we were delighted to stay in this historic and lovely Georgian house- especially loved the servant’s staircase leading from the dining room to a bedroom. There was plenty of space in the kitchen/ diner for all of us to gather and the living room was comfortable for evenings . Nicely decorated bedrooms and bathrooms and the welcome basket was a lovely touch. Highly recommend!

Wonderful Stay at The Georgian Townhouse

Stayed here for two nights during a birthday get together with family . The house was just perfect in every way . Warm and welcoming when we arrived at 4pm .We found the house spotlessly clean with beautiful comfortable furniture ,beautiful comfortable beds and bedlinen , The welcome pack was very much appreciated after a long journey from Edinburgh . The Christmas tree and decorations added to the wonderful ambience of the house . Fabulous comfortable place to stay in York look forward to returning in the future .

Absolutely brilliant

Wow! What a find this stunning house was for our daughter’s wedding weekend. We live in Worcester, but she lives in York and wanted to be married from there, but as she has a small house we booked the Georgian House for our entire family, plus bridesmaids, to stay in and we could not have chosen anything more fitting. Firstly, it is fantastically located in central York not far from the Shambles. Then it is so utterly and beautifully stylish. Everything was provided and it was all so comfortable. The kitchen diner is a wow room. Large and bright looking out onto the main road, it was the perfect getting together point for a family meal and chatter. The walk in pantry kitchen prep area was fantastic for food storage and for the wedding cake! The living room was cozy and comfortable and provided a good amount of seating plus access to the small courtyard. Each room and bathroom was tastefully decorated and very luxurious. The large staircase leading to the first floor was perfect for those first sight photos of father and bride. The top floor where the final 2 bedrooms are located is also stylishly decorated and not just left because it’s the top of the house. The house is for sale on Rightmove. If only I could afford it I’d buy it in a shot. Even though it’s for sale, it’s still very well managed by York Stays, who were fantastic to deal with, and I’d grab your chance to stay here whilst you can incase it no longer remains up for rent. We’d love to come back one day and if I win the lottery I’ll buy it and let you stay .

Really nice house in a wonderful location.

So first the good, the property is in good condition, is nicely appointed and the location is absolutely amazing in terms of access to the town centre, shops, pubs, restaurants. We really enjoyed ourselves there and it's perfect for families like ours. For these reasons I would wholeheartedly give a positive review. However........ the not so good. The property is almost certainly aimed at the short term rental market. We took the property for six weeks and there were a few gripes that we had, a couple of which were reported but nothing was done about it. Firstly, the wireless in the property is hopeless, it badly needs either the router being moved and/or a signal booster, in this day and age that's a basic requirement. Likewise, the TV signal didn't work at all which is another absolute basic, we reported this but nothing was done about it. We had a leak in the upstairs shower due to a badly fitting door. We reported this, were told it would be fixed, nothing happened again. Given the size of the property, both the fridge and freezer are insufficient but again, for short term renters this is probably not such an issue. There was also nowhere at all to hang clothes on hangers, again probably fine for short term renters. The only issue with the location is it's dreadfully noisy all day as you would expect on a busy street at a bus stop. Comes with the territory. Only real issue was at night if it's warm and you need the window open to sleep. There are so many people coming out late from pubs and bars, it's very noisy and can be a bit unpleasant depending the stave of the revelers. The downstairs badly needs day curtains as you are faced with the choice of making the room dark with the full curtains or face endless people staring in, we opted for the latter. All in all, a really great property, brilliant location but some reservations if you are taking it for a good period of time.
