Everything and everyone with this hotel are TOP! The pick up from the Zermatt station via a horse draw carriage provided a great first impression! And the experience just went upward from there. Since the hotel was not fully booked, we were given a comp upgrade to a suite with an incredible view of the Matterhorn. Unexpected and super nice.
Yes, this is a 5-star property. But, unlike others, all the staff seemed sincerely interested in helping to improve your experience (with NO expectations for tip!). The lovely young ladies at the reception desk who chatted with me almost daily about such things as Bergsteigerbrot vs Bienenbrot are model employees, but so is the young Frenchman who helped us with our Skis a few of the mornings. Everyone was really quite friendly and helpful. It never felt like a pretentious hotel where you had to behave a certain way.
Breakfast was always super! Dinner was nice, but had limited choices and was a bit pricey.
Overall, everything was as perfect as it could be (given corona restrictions). I can only hope to come back again someday. Vielen Dank Zermatter
BTW- it happened to be my husband’s birthday mid stay, and what a lovely surprise it was to come back after a long day of skiing to find a YUMMY choc mini cake (with candle) waiting in our room. The plate also had a sweet bday wish written in chocolate (natürlich!).
