The setting is beautiful, but the cottage did not live up to the setting. One problem was the Roku TVs, which did not work the entire time we were there. The management company (Unique Stays) was unable to fix the problem. Thus, we were not provided an amenity we were promised in our contract.
Since that time we have made repeated efforts to be compensated for the inconvenience, but have yet to receive any meaningful communication from Unique Stays despite having checked out 5 weeks ago--and despite being told that a management team would meet and figure out how to "make things right" for us. On 9/14 we were promised that a manager would call us the next day and we're still waiting for that phone call.
Other issues related to the stay had to do with cleanliness: I had to clean the refrigerator before adding our food, the stove had crumbs under the burners, there was a rotting potato on the kitchen window sill, one of the screens in the kitchen window was leaning up against the wall rather than being in the window (we put it back in place), there was a big wad of hair on the floor in the living room, and the nuts covering the bolts in the shower door were loose. We received multiple emails with check-out procedures, including instructions only to put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and start it; however, the cottage does not have a dishwasher. We received a final email AFTER we left that included instructions if there was no dishwasher--wash and put away the dishes. But, there was only a damp, musty-smelling sponge for washing the dishes (I had to buy dishcloths so I could wash the dishes during our stay) and would never consider using that sponge to wash dishes. The cottage has 3 beds; however, one of those beds is in a loft that has NO railing across the front of the loft and no rails on the ladder going up to the loft. I had fully intended to address these issues privately with Unique Stays once they resolved the TV issue, but since they have failed to communicate with us, this seems to be my only recourse. In the future, I will steer clear of renting any property from the company.
