We arrived at the proprty and walked up to the porch to ring the doorbell. The property was overrun with dead plants and was very un kempt. The steps were hard to negotiate for my wife and I. There were pots of dead plants on every step. There was a cat tower next to the front door, and there was feces smeared on it right at eye level. On the one side of the porch was some kind of pet house with heat lamps in front of it, possibly for feral cats? On the other side of the porch were 3 chairs, which were dirty and one chair had cat feces on it. We knew the owners have a cat, which was not an issue for us.
When the owner arrived, he let us in the front door, we immediately decided not to stay. The house looked dirty, nothing like the pictures on the website. There was an overwhelming smell of cat in the house. We talked to the owner about the condition of the porch, yard, and the house, and told him it looked nothing like the pictures. He understood our concerns, and explained he had been unable to work on the house do to recent medical issues.
We dealt with Expedia customer service, and were able to receive a full refund. We feel that the property was totally mis-represented, either intentionally or not. We were very disappointed to have to find other lodging.
We think someone from either Vrbo or Expedia should go out to inspect the property before it is listed. The owner was very nice about everything, and we wish him nothing but the best.
