âOkuhida Hot Spring Hirayukan is conveniently located, just a short and easy walk from the Hirayu Onsen bus terminal. A small shop beside the ryokan sells snacks and drinks, which is useful especially in the quieter evenings.
Check in was smooth and the ryokan already had our Expedia reservations. As with most Japanese ryokan, copies of our passports were taken. We stayed in the Japanese Style Room, Sengakuso, Non Smoking (35 sqm). Footwear must be removed at the main lobby and changed to the in ...

âLovely onsen, with a sauna and an outdoor garden bath. Very friendly and dedicated staff, with limited English but no communication difficulties. It's a bit far from the action in Takayama old town, but there are some superb restaurants nearby.â

âIts a very good hotel with a fantastic onsen a great view and in the near of the shinotaka ropeway. They gave us free bycicles to go there. The only thing I didn't check properly was to book breakfast and dinner. In the middle of nowhere it is impossible to buy food out of season. So we had to order breakfast and dinner which cost the same as two nights in this hotel. Maybe it was a little naive but I whished that expedia or the hotel would inform us about the missing of a supermarket or ...

âWe were a bit unsure of this hotel but weâre glad we stayed. It was a hostel that is now a hotel, so our room was quite large, set up with a kitchen, and would be perfect for a family. The bathroom was clean and new and it was all very comfortable. Not to mention complimentary sake and beer! It is across the street from Takayama station, so very convenient, yet on a street that isnât busy. â

âThe hotel is a brand new hotel. All the facilities are new! The room is spacious and clean. The reception staff can speak good English and handle my enquires. I stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. To my surprise, they promised to arrange every day room cleaning when I requested.
I love the public thermal hot spring, we can see the stunning Takayama city view from there especially in daytime.
