Te Wahipounamu

This was taken at the Kea Point lookout at Mt Cook National Park. It was an easy trek and the view was phenomenal. We got there just as the sun was about to go behind the mountains so I was glad that I could capture what was left of the light on those snow-capped peaks. The giant mountain there is Mt Wakefield and just to the left of it is Mt Cook, nearly fully covered by those stubborn clouds. The Muller Glacier down the bottom definitely gave the image a good colour contrast as well.

Possibly one of the best hike I have ever done in my life. We did the Hooker Valley trail - it was relatively easy to do. You wouldn't even get tired because of the scenery in front of you. It was a beautiful hike and unfortunately, our stay here was short (for future visitors, spend some time in this area and do the other hikes).

The way to Mt. Cook was amazing as well. There was one point where we went around the mountains filled with #snow. I was stunned with the beauty surrounding me that I forgot to take a photo. I felt like I was in a fantasyland - the clouds were a bit dark as well so I had that eerie feeling that a dragon from Lord of the Rings will fly out in the sky at any minute. It was a magical feeling.

With the weather being closed in for most of the day, our planned destination was revised and here we were. A 30 minute leisurely walk through Alpine paths, a scramble down the rocks and this is what you could be met with. Icebergs still floating in Spring (not that the weather felt like Spring), moody skies and in the distance the glacial ice. This area, not that long ago was more glacial than lake. Yes, it was once Tasman Glacier. You could stay here for hours, I did. #newzealand #glacier #lake #nature
Flying over the braided rivers feeding into Lake Pukaki, getting an unreal perspective of Mount Cook and the snow covered village below with The Helicopter Line 🚁
