Dear Expedia for TD management,
I am writing regarding our recent stay at Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen, which fell far below the standards expected of a five-star property.
Upon arrival, as we exited the elevator to access our room (room 212, directly across the hall), we were met with a strong sewer-like odor. We initially tried to overlook it, but the smell persisted throughout the evening. Around 2–3 a.m., the odor entered our room—apparently through the vents—waking us from sleep due to its intensity.
At 8:00 a.m., we contacted reception and were told someone would come immediately; no one did. Staff suggested this was a new issue, yet plug-in air fresheners in the hallway indicated otherwise. At 11:00 a.m., after calling again, we were told another room would be arranged. Shortly after noon, with nothing resolved, I went to the front desk. Only then did staff acknowledge an ongoing odor issue in that building and move us to a sister property a few blocks away. At 1:00 p.m., we had to pack and relocate.
We later met two couples in rooms 212 and 214 who experienced the same odour issue.
As parents who arranged a brief three-night getaway, losing a night’s sleep and half a day of our trip significantly impacted our stay. We are disappointed both by the condition of the room and the initial denial of the issue, and wasting our time to argue and relocate…
Given the circumstances, we respectfully request full reimbursement.
